Take a Look at the Map
from MyDD by Jonathan Singer <rss@mydd.com>
This is rather remarkable. Pollster.com has put together a new map ranking the races strong, lean and tossup based on the results and amount of polling in each state. I'd recommend you head over there to take a whole look at the interactive map, because it's a cool feature, and one that has a lot of information. But for a moment, let me describe what it shows.
The current Pollster.com map shows Barack Obama leading 284 to 147 in the electoral vote count, when both strong and lean states are included. With just strong states in the mix, Obama's lead over John McCain is 231 to 72.
McCain's problems don't stop here, however. Based on the latest numbers and trends, a whopping 10 states that George W. Bush carried in 2000 and 2004, constituting 107 electoral votes, are considered tossups. Another three states worth 32 electoral votes that Bush carried in 2004 are already considered to lean towards Obama.
And how many Kerry states lean McCain, or even are considered tossups at this juncture? Not a one. In fact, there are just two states that Kerry won in 2004 -- Michigan and New Hampshire -- worth a total of 21 electoral votes, that even just lean towards Obama at this time. All of the rest of the Kerry states are now strongly in favor of Obama.
