3. What does the name mean?
Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 10:41 PM by Arctic Dave
If my memory recalls correctly, my mom used this name for people she did not particularly like.

Methuselah outlived Lamech by five years, living 969 years altogether which means, he died when Noah was 600 years old, just days before the Great Flood.

11. This illustrates the profound difference between Repugs and Democrats
Edited on Sat Jul-26-08 12:42 AM by ruggerson
They find a name, like Lurch, and then they all use it in lockstep, so it actually has resonance.

We each think we alone are brilliant and thus reject the ideas proffered by others, never agree on a single name, or anything else for that matter, and end up wasting the entire opportunity to wield it as a weapon.

We do not mock as well or as effectively as they do, because we don't fall in line.

19. effective mocking
The fact that there are so many mocking monikers which are appropriate may constitute an effective weapon in itself. It certainly is more amusing and entertaining.

20. Hasn't caught on. Nor has my using his full name, John Sidney McCain III.
McThuselah was floated a couple of weeks ago and hasn't caught on yet. Perhaps because we need to be reminded about the reference.

I am surprised that my wanting to use JSM III's full name hasn't caught on. I think his full name cuts through the maverick stuff and is a reminder that he's not the one to be calling others elitist. He's son & grandson of admirals, husband of an heiress.

"No, you cant"

I prefer to stay away from age-related cracks... don't like to hear people made fun of because they are old. It's hard to ask for discrimination protecting yourself from age related firings when you are poking fun at someone like that.

23. I have to say no. Ageism isn't funny.
Forget his age, McCain is a complete idiot and there's enough proof of that without bringing his age into it. There is way too much ageism in this country and seniors are disregarded enough as it is - I don't think that the Dem Party, of all people, should encourage it.
