GOP questions all those Obama offices; Dems show ‘em the leases

The Missouri Republican Party was busy today telling Political Fix today that aides had compiled evidence casting doubt on all those 24 rural offices that state Democrats say will be opened Saturday on behalf of their presumptive presidential nominee, Barack Obama.

The Missouri Democratic Party countered with evidence that the offices do, indeed, exist.

State GOP spokeswoman Tina Hervey said that the party’s staff did “a spot check” Friday of some of the addresses circulated by the state Democratic Party earlier this week for the new Obama offices.

One in Sikeston appears to be a Dairy Queen, she said, while the address in Louisiana, Mo. appeared to belong to a paint store, and the one in Bolivar, Mo., seemed to be a family-planning center.

Hervey said that the Republican National Committee has been conducting such checks of some other Obama offices in some other states, and found that some didn’t exist.

But state Democratic Party spokesman Jack Cardetti said that’s definitely not true in Missouri.

He provided copies of the leases for the offices in question, as well as a photo of the one in Louisiana, Mo.

Whatever those offices or buildings used to house, they’re now Obama campaign offices, he said.
