If Obama is going to talk about the world being one then
Edited on Thu Jul-24-08 01:44 PM by RGBolen
he needs to can the economic isolationism and nationalism from his campaign, and remove anyone who supports such. He need to push for more regional political jurisdictions like the EU around the world, and yes here in North America as well. And there should be a massive 100 days style push to further integrate the world economy once he takes office.

4. I guess nothing with the first definition, the second needs to be destroyed any time it
raises its ugly head.

1 Devotion to the interests or culture of one's nation.

2 The belief that nations will benefit from acting independently rather than collectively, emphasizing national rather than international goals.

5. Globalization by far the STUPIDEST endeavor mankind's ever devised
Edited on Thu Jul-24-08 02:03 PM by depakid
What's required in a time of decreasing energy resources is relocalization and de-linking from globalized markets that destroy regional self sufficiency.

If Obama's elected- and his administration understands this (and/or has the courage to implement appropriate policies, he may well end looking more like an FDR than a Hoover backed by irrational economics that ignore both history and overriding natural laws.

The world's about to become a much larger place- whether we accept reality or not.

7. Globalize unions, globalize worker protections, globalize environmental regs
allow the free movement of labor across borders for the purpose of selling labor equitably on a global labor market, globalize health care protections and social safety nets...

then, and only then...

will you have true and equitable globalized markets.

Yes, one world. Yes, fuck nationalism and isolationism. But we must do it right: global justice first. Global capital second.

8. Globalized government
Edited on Thu Jul-24-08 02:28 PM by NoMoreMyths
It's the only way to negate the power of global corporations who, as you pointed out, can take advantage of the lack of unions, worker protections, enviro regs, etc, in a fractured government infrastructure. A single global government, representing billions and billions of people. Hell, that's the fight that has been going on for thousands of years. Pretty much every war has been about that core idea. Should be fun.

11. Don't disagree with you about global justice. And nationalism should be treated as a mental illness.
