1. he manages. Remember, he's a pole vaulter and McCane
is doing the limbo somewhere in the cheese section.

3. yeah, I keep thinking we are hearing his acceptance or inaugural speeches
and he just keeps getting better.

that was a WOW and I am glad I got to hear it live. I cleaned off my desk while listening to him, so was also productive at the same time.

5. The beauty of this speech...
...is that it wasn't a campaign speech.

6. Well, that's the moment when his candidacy is written in stone
So it'll be a different speech aimed at Americans. And the crowd will go wild enough for it to be a very exciting moment. You know - music, cheering and a blizzard of confetti with pictures of our purple mountains majesty in the background.

I'll predict it as a "5 goosebumps out of 5" evening.

Say a prayer that the rain god is asleep that day. :D

8. You mean you thought that was a good speech? I thought it was listless--
a tired laundry list of terror this and hope that, no fresh thinking, and barely a nod at the things that Germans are angry at the U.S. about--the horrendous Iraq War, the forever war in Afghanistan/Pakistan, and Israel/Palestine.

Really, it's the worst speech I've ever heard him give, and the man can speak. He has a terrific gift for it.

The best line was about breaking down walls--between countries, between races and religions, against immigrants, and so on. Next best line was about ending the era of nuclear weapons (without addressing the irony of 'now that we have lots of them, nobody else can have them' and 'we can saber rattle and threaten all we want, cuz we got ours'). And the best part of the speech was the beginning--a nice beginning about his origins (about his Dad being a servant to the British--good line).

Other than that, it certainly had none of the historic pizzazz of JFK's speech in Berlin. It ran over too many issues--and seemed unfocused, and mainly an appeal to Germans that, we helped you then, so where is your cannon fodder/booty for the Forever War?

I disagree with Obama about a lot of things--but I have always admired the elegant construction of his speeches and his delivery. That is no small gift in a leader who is trying to raise peoples' spirits after this decade of horror. I was disappointed.

I sense...a deep divide, arguments, exhaustion among his advisers. Something going on. They couldn't come up with anything better than this? It's like it was written by a committee of people who could barely stand each other.
