NBC/WSJ Poll: Obama keeps lead over McCain
Voters see Democrat as riskier pick, but rival has negatives of his own

WASHINGTON - A majority of Americans think Barack Obama is a riskier choice for the presidency, but he maintains a six-point lead over Republican John McCain, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

With slightly more than 100 days until the election, the survey provides a glimpse of the challenges facing both presidential candidates.

For McCain, it comes amid a toxic political climate for Republicans. Just three in 10 respondents approve of President Bush’s job. Only one in seven McCain voters say they’re excited to vote for him. And the percentage of Americans who believe the country is on the right track is at its lowest mark ever in the poll.

For Obama, it’s that a majority think he’s a risky choice for the presidency; that less than half say the Illinois Democrat shares their background and values; and that there are concerns he’s too inexperienced.

Inexperienced? Doesn't share my values? It's time we pushed back at the media and called them on their coddling of McCain. McCain is more out of touch with the average American's values than even Bush!!
McCain's "experience" is in being a Washington insider for 30 years.

2. It's worth the "risk" if they'd think about it...

We know for sure that Gaffe McBlunder will be Bush's third term! We KNOW this for fact.

It's already been framed and we can't fight that well... but we can spin it... change is worth the risk. McSame is the same known evil we've lived with for over seven years!

3. This is good news

If you go down through all of the numbers it shows that with third party candidates McCain goes all the way down to 35% and Obama is 48%.


Obama blows McCain up and down the field but there is a residue of concern - I find it when I canvass even among Democrats.



If Obama can get people to relax and feel comfortable with him then there is going to be a landslide - that is why we see Obama by himself without a lot of prominent surrogates.



It also shows that door to door canvassing will have a big impact - people are fine with Obama on the issues they just want their hand held so that the can calm down.

It is much better to have people who agree with you but are not comfortable with you than to have people disagree with you and feel comfortable with you.


Its much easier to move an emotional negative than an intellecutal one. Easier to make people feel comfortable than to argue with them.


And finally door to door canvassing has the biggest impact - if they feel that their neighbors are on board with Obama they will get a lot more comfortable.

So was Jack Kennedy. So was FDR. And Lincoln.

And so was Bush.

The American people have to decide. Do they want same ole, same ole, or a completely new direction after Bush?
