13. I would suggest that jindal didn't turn him down
jindal is one of the slimiest politicians in America today. He most likely was told he was not going to be the VP choice therefore he was given the opportunity to say that he would not take the post. I suspect mccain was coming to New Orleans for photop purposes and to tell jindal in person that he wasn't it.

I also strongly believe that jindal would have given his left nut to be the VP choice. He is nothing but pond scum. mccain is an honorable man compared to piyush.

22. That would imply that
PBJ has a left, or right, nut in the first place. :P

The recent fiasco over the legislative pay raise (and, we now know, failed backroom deal) would suggest otherwise.

7. He'll miss the 400,000+ gal fuel oil spill in Mississippi River in New Orleans then. Gee.
http://www.nola.com/news/index.ssf/2008/07/ap_collision_closes_mississipp.html
A 29-mile stretch of the Mississippi River could remain closed for days after a tanker collided with a barge being pulled by a tugboat, slicing the barge in half and causing hundreds of thousands of gallons of heavy fuel oil to spill into the waterway. No injuries were reported in the collision, but the heavy smell of fuel has continued to plague the French Quarter and other parts of the city. The Coast Guard has closed the river between mile markers 70 and 99, from the vicinity of the Harvey Locks to near the mouth of the river.
(clip)
In the meantime, state environmental officials are coordinating a massive effort to consolidate the oil and prevent it from drifting farther south, where there are more levee breaks that would allow it to leach into the wetlands. As of late morning, the state oil spill coordinator said the fuel had drifted a mile south of Belle Chasse.

State Department of Environmental Quality officials warned the unrefined, tar-like # 6 fuel oil is so thick that it could sink, complicating the cleanup efforts. Therefore, the fuel oil won't simply evaporate off the surface, which means workers will try to remove it before it starts to sink. "This is not our first rodeo; we've seen spills before," said Roland Guidry of the Oil Spill Coordinator's Office.

Residents in Algiers, Gretna, St. Bernard Parish and Plaquemines Parish are also being asked to conserve water, as water intakes for those communities are closed to prevent contamination of the drinking water supply. Water flowing through the tap is from reserve supplies, which could run out in many areas by afternoon or early evening, officials said....(more@link)

Earlier, Shuster said something about a clip of Obama joking that he "wanted the press to like" him. But Shuster also mentioned how stupid it was for McCain to complain about the pess when Obama traditionally has a not so good relationship with his press corps, as opposed to McCain.

11. I heard Obama's comment during his presser in Israel. He had
someone else picking the people to ask questions so they didn't blame him if they didn't get picked.

The other day David Shuster was saying that Obama was going
to get on the bad side of the press because he had a "dress code" for reporters that travel with him. He claimed it was not suggestions but an actual dress code and that it would upset the press. Whatever. If you don't want to dress in an appropriate manner then don't go. Go cover McLame!

12. Actually, pretty lucky for him...
He'd have to be explaining to the press why the Bush Administration attributes the drop in oil prices to lower demand (the economy you know), and higher than expected inventories, rather than being a response to lifting the drilling ban.

18. So much for counterprogramming Obama in Germany...
McCain to counterprogram Obama in Germany with visit to Gulf Coast oil rig

While Barack Obama is speaking about international affairs in Germany before thousands of fans tomorrow, John McCain will be talking about a pressing domestic issue with an equally striking if very different backdrop.

Weather permitting, McCain will helicopter from Louisiana to an oil rig in the Gulf Coast to make the case for expanded off-shore drilling, says a McCain aide.

The GOP nominee will be joined by a small press pool of reporters and photographers on a trek sure to offer memorable images. Because of space constraints, Louisiana Gov. and veep prospect Bobby Jindal will not make the trip.

Since first disclosed Monday, McCain's visit to the state has been shrouded in mystery. Campaign aides have been watching weather patterns, including the path of Hurricane Dolly, closely and are hopeful they can pull off the visit.

UPDATE: Just over an hour after finalizing plans to visit an oil rig tomorrow, the McCain campaign has canceled the visit.

“The meeting with Governor Jindal has been postponed and we are cancelling the trip to the rig due to weather," said spokesman MIchael Goldfarb.

McCain will now fly from Pennsylvania to Ohio. He had originally planned to fly tonight from Pennsylvania to New Orleans to be staged there for morning departure to the rig.

The campaign declined to comment any further about the quick decision to spike the trip other than to cite the weather.
