Obama: Americans Will Always Stand By Israel

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

The presumptive Democratic nominee http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1825864,00.html">pledges support for the Jewish state at a press conference at a local police station in Sderot.

Also denounces Hamas’ “intolerable” rocket attacks on Israel.

“If somebody were sending rockets into my house, where my two daughters sleep at night, I’m going to do everything in my power to stop it. And I would expect Israelis to do the same thing.”

Asked about AIPAC remark on an undivided Jerusalem: “I didn’t change my statement. I continue to say Jerusalem will be the capital of Israel.” But says he doesn’t want to “slice the city in half.”

Obama spoke in front of a display of Palestinian Qassam rockets after touring the area earlier.

5. From the article...
"I bring to Sderot an unshakable commitment to Israel's security," Obama said. "The state of Israel faces determined enemies who seek its destruction. But it also has a friend and ally in the United States that will always stand by the people of Israel."
