He attributed the Sunni awakening to the Saudis working the tribes and said Iran's pullback from chaos in Northern Iraq was also a factor. He said Iraq was a buffer between all these external competing factions. Interesting.

Lastly, he credited the change in tactics by Petraeus to Rumsfeld leaving. He said more troops were always a good thing, but these factors are just as or more important than the surge.

Harold did not mention the other factors atributing to the the success. He just said that if a candidate did not believe (and he did not say that Barack did not believe) that the surge improved conditions in Iraq then they would have to answer to the American people. Scarborough was trying to goad Harold by asking how Barack could not admit that the surge worked.

Clark also managed to give an excellent briefing on many of the dynamics at play in the region. I watched the video waiting for the fireworks (and Joes's attempt to counter Wes was a dud) but found myself instead listening to some intellingent points being made that virtually no one in the media is talking about. Way to go General!
