Is General Petraeus a DEMOCRAT? Heard that before. NOW DOWD DROPS HINT

Had heard from beltway friends who should know that Petraeus was suspected of being a closet democrat -- and that fact could have stalled his career under Bush.

Now Dowd drops a similar hint:



The image of John McCain in a golf cart with Bush 41 in Kennebunkport — with Poppy charmingly admitting that they were “a little jealous” of all the Obama odyssey coverage — was not a good advertisement for the future, especially contrasted with the shots of Gen. David Petraeus and Obama smiling at each other companionably in a helicopter surveying Iraq. (Asked by a Democratic lawmaker a while back why there weren’t more Democrats in the military, General Petraeus smiled slyly and said “there are more than you think.”)

all his political connections and has not voted since - believing in a strict seperation and control of the military by civilians.

Why don't we give the man a break and sees what he does when he gets an order from President Obama.


If he wanted to make Obama look bad during this trip he had lots of opportunities but it looks like they enjoyed each other's company.

The best possible outcome for the country and for the soldiers that are fighting in Iraq is that Obama becomes President and Petraeus carries out the orders effectively and enthusiastically.


If Obama can brin Patraeus 'inside the tent' at that point he will have just bought himself another 6 months of honeymoon.

17. Exactly the reason I didn't like Moveon's attack on him....

High level US Generals have to put politics aside, regardless of beliefs, and serve their civilian "masters." That's written into US history and the constitution. The General "Betray US" thing hurt Moveon more than it helped them. I reject attacks on high ranking military officials at this point. If they're left standing at this point, it's because they know what they're doing on the ground every day.
