How are the Obama coat-tails in your state?
Here in Colorado all the Democratic Congressional candidates are running on Obama's change/out-of-Iraq platform and proudly displaying "DEMOCRAT for Congress" in their commercials. The Republicans are all going to great lengths to hide the fact they're Republican. The word is never even mentioned. :)

The difference couldn't be more stark. We're going to win this thing and then some.

1. I actually heard from a good source this week that the Republican running...
...for the House in my area is voting for Obama. 'Course we're not letting that guy take our seat, regardless of his fondness for Barack!

2. Oregon: Gordon Smith (R) talks up ties to Obama, fails to mention (R). NT

5. Gordon is running scared
because all of his moderate talk and photo-opp tree-hugging is a complete sham in the face of his 95%-vote-with-BushCo. record.

7. Gawd I hope we can kick his ass out of there ...
I have to say, I'm not extremely hopeful. It seems like people here don't really get how much of a Bush suck-up he is. It's frustrating. Oregon shouldn't have to put up with a Repukian Senator.

17. We won't if Merkley keeps running a Bradbury/Bruggere type campaign
The Obama assocation ads went unchallenged and now Smith is on the attack with a heavy handed anti-tax ad.

Merkly's ads (the few that have aired thus far) can best be described as mush. Unless Merkley calls out Smith for who he is in no uncertain terms- and gets down and dirty with the FACTS about Smith's Republican record- we'll have yet another losing, high road Dem come this November.

19. I Dont know
I almost think that Smith is backing himself into a corner. The polls I have seen are seeing him slide, slowly but surely, despite the money he is obviously putting into it. As long as it keeps going slowly against him anyway, I am happy enough to watch him blow money, and have Merkley save up for a more timely blitz.

21. I just worry that the blitz won't come...
Smith has gotten a pass the last two rounds, and waltzed away with his "bipartisan" image untarnished. If that happens yet again, while Merkley keeps getting trashed- we'll see the same results.

Negative campaigning isn't pretty- but there's no doubt it works.

22. I was worried about that as well
But watching Gordie slowly but surely slip in the polls has brought me a little hope. Plus, since Merkley obviously isn't spending all that much right now, I assume he's got to be saving it for something.

As we get closer, I will more alert, but it still seems a little early to me to panic. I will say I will be Royally pissed if we blow this chance. Merkley wasn't my first choice, but he seemed like a decent guy when I met him.

3. not very good in most of the state
but there are perhaps enough black voters in Omaha to make a difference in that Congressional race. It will be interesting to see.

8. My republican senator is campaigning on Obama's coattails,
as I reported here:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=6474221

I'm not surprised; it seems his determination to "bring us together with republicans," ie move us over to where the republicans are, is bearing fruit.

9. Republican opponent of our Democratic Senator is trying to use Obama's coattails.
Edited on Sun Jul-20-08 07:48 PM by Mass
It's MA, so it will not work, but it is funny to see.

Now, if the GOP does worse he did in 2004 and 2006, they will probably be wiped off the MA electoral map.

10. Illinois...Probably no change at all.
We were pretty solidly Blue to begin with. Virtually all of the districts with Republican reps are hick districts even Obama can't win. We may gain one seat.

I notice that SUSA and Rasmussun both have Obama up in NM. Is that because of the locals, or how does that fit in?

13. Obama will get more votes in Texas than any Democrat since 1996.
Maybe earlier.

He will have coattails, because he will be drawing new voters to the Democratic party.

15. Charlie Brown is running in CA4 against
a carpetbagger from another district. Even though this is still a red district, I have, how do you say, Hope. It is looking good so far for him. I think he can take the seat in November.

16. I honestly think they're pretty damn good here in AZ.
We have strong Congressional candidates who might pick up 2 more seats here. Bob Lord is doing a great job raising money against John Shadegg, and Ann Kirkpatrick is kicking ass, fundraising-wise, in Rick Renzi's seat. Harry Mitchell and Gabrielle Giffords (new incumbents) are holding strong too. We are poised to pick up enough seats in the State Lege to have a Dem majority, and for the first time in decades, we have a full slate of candidates for the Maricopa County Supervisor districts. :woohoo:

McCain's home state, BTW. :woohoo:
