Andrea Mitchell, along with other MSM pundits, think it could be a bad thing if Europeans treat Obama too much like a rock star during his upcoming trip to Europe and the Middle East because so many people in this country view Europe with such a leary eye.

:wtf:

So I guess Obama better hope that Europeans don't go ga-ga over him too much because it could turn Americans off to him, lol.

I've got some news for Andrea and her peers. Obama WILL be treated like a rock star in Europe, and that's a GOOD thing not a bad thing. The only people who would hold it against Obama if Europeans swoon over him wouldn't be voting for Obama anyway. Idiots.

5. I agree, but...

I would also point out that the main reason that a US citizen may view Europe with a "leary eye" is because of the many myths & negative connotations regarding the continent propagated by the agreement between the current right-wing administration and its broadcast media underlings. If the USA had a fair & balanced mass media the Republicans would be shit out of luck for the next 16 years at least.

On the other hand, the main reason a European may view the US with a "leary eye" is because, ridiculously, it's actually much easier for them to see said administration & its piles of bullshit through a clear(er) lens.

17. Very good point
When I've traveled overseas I have been struck by the difference in media coverage.

Even the BBC broadcast in the US is dramitacally different in both tone and content.

35. I was going to say almost the same thing

IF ... "a US citizen may view Europe with a "leary eye" is because of the many myths & negative connotations regarding the continent propagated by" ... the MSM itself, for whatever reasons. However in this age of Internet communications I don't think that leeriness is as applicable as it once was. The MSM is no longer the only source of information for a growing number of the general population. A fact that seems to have escaped the Pubs who have been slow to embrace the technology themselves and is a contributing factor in their downfall.

10. It'll also be bad if Europeans don't like him, or if they're lukewarm
If they smile or don't smile. If they cheer or don't cheer. And so on.

Whatever happens, it will be a good day for the Republicans.

If Obama wins a landslide victory in November, the media will tell us that even that is good for the Republicans and bad for the Democrats.

34. No they don't.
One of the greatest boosts for African Americans who fought in WWII and came home to fight for civil rights was that they saw black French people being treated with equality.

One would have to have zero knowledge of the world around them to think that Obama doesn't "look french."

Most Americans couldn't find France on a globe.

Our education system is woefully pitiful for geography and world history.

42. The media will find a way to trash Obama's trip
If Europeans embrace him, they will do what they did to kerry: compare him to the French, as if the French were bad people.
If they don't embrace him, the media will argue that he doesn't have international clout.

The corporate media is in the tank for corporate McCain.

43. Okay, Easy, Obama Just Needs To Give The Crowd The Bird
The audience will react negatively, and his credibility among Americans will be preserved. Afterall, that is why Bush gave that impromptu backrub to Mercel. She reacted with disgust, the European's were disgusted with Bush, and Bush's credibility among working class, whites was preserved.

So Obama! When you step off the plane. Take Bush's example. Give everyone the one finger salute. Also, one up bush, and give Mercel a foot rub. Your credibility in America will soar.

45. The media is our biggest threat
At least Obama is going to visit some of our most important allies and meeting with leaders instead of going to Ottawa to make lame speeches on free trade like McLame or going on a meaningless trip to Latin America. Where was the concern over the timing when McSame went abroad? Yet, they never stop harping about how "risky" the trip is or what "questionable timing" it is or how it's a bad thing that Europeans might like an American. The media just needs to STFU.
