If President Obama asks you to sacrifice something, be it
laying off on fueling up, or contributing food to homeless shelters, add your own, would you, and do you think he'd be out of line doing so?

the last great GOP president said it best
"the presidency is a bully pulpit"
that is his job
to goad us into bettering ourselves
i expect him to shame the US churches about charity work that has become a government duty

ETA and i would definitely make the effort to comply with what he was saying if it was sensible and reasonable

are marked for medical use only... All sex toys need to be marked for "Medical Use" and you have to fill out a form and check yes to one of five questions... Questions like: "Does it take you a long time to have a orgasm?"

We have come a long way baby......

3. As with any such question, It depends
Be it contributing food to those who need it, then I think he would be perfectly in line, and I would do so if able.

Be it to give up my civil rights, no. That would be well out of line and inapropriate, no matter the claimed gain. There is no blind following in this household, unless feathers and handcuffs be involved.

Because his priorities are right.

I will not sacrifice anything for a "President Bush" or McCain.

I have an 18 year old cousin who is waiting for the results of the election: If Obama wins, he will enlist in the Army. If McCain wins, he will not enlist.

His name is Rowan Elwood

My son decided to go with my Dad's name (which is also my middle name) as our new grandson's middle name. How cool it is that?

Thanks! Yeah, I'm a very proud grandpa, no doubt about that. I just cringe at the thought of the state of the world that he is coming into.

Edited on Sun Jul-20-08 01:03 PM by kenzee13
Like a guaranteed national income. The Employee Free Choice Act. Reducing our bloated military budget and real oversight on military spending. Fair taxes on the rich and corporations. Public financing of elections. A "manhattan project" on green energy and retrofitting. A Jobs/Public Works program for our inner cities. Support for small-scale sustainable farmers. On edit, forgot nationalizing utilities.

You know, there was a time when we didn't have to have a Food Bank or Soup Kitchen on every corner.

ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country and all that

I know that I've been driving too much lately and I need to start biking it more. I volunteer once a month at my local food bank and I could probably do more in the way of community service.

Something like this is needed since the Bushies did their best to drive wedges between Americans. We need to come together for the good of this country before there is no country to unite.

37. If I sacrifice something, it's because:
1. I have something to sacrifice, and

2. I feel called to do so by my own inner "voice."

I don't choose actions because someone else calls for me to do so.

If someone who has earned my respect makes a suggestion, I will give the suggestion thoughtful consideration and make up my own mind.

I don't need a political "leader" to act as nanny, authoritarian "daddy," "spiritual leader," or my conscience.

Personally, I don't put a politician in office to lead, but to facilitate the will of the people. If the will of the majority is different than my own, I'm free to work to change that, or to decline.

The people are supposed to tell the politicians what to do; the politicians don't tell the people.

My opinion of people with a lot of money isn't good. I question how they got it, for starters.

And I'm sure there are examples to the contrary. Jolie and Pitt have helped.

We sacrifice enough. I sacrifice many things - I am not a wasteful person in general, so I don't consider it sacrifice to not waste fuel, etc, but I do it because I want to, not because someone in authority tells me to. I'd want to know what he is sacrificing, too.

53. Sacrifice
If any of you are old enough to have lived during WWII, we were called upon to make many sacrifices. Examples were Cars, Bicycles, Gasoline, Fuel Oil & Kerosene, Solid Fuels, Stoves. Rubber, Footwear, Shoes, Sugar, Coffee, Processed Foods. Meats, canned fish, Cheese, canned milk, fats and typewriter.

Heck I grew up as a Catholic and we couldn't have meat on Friday and only ate one whole meal a day during Lent. We all did it with a willing spirit and it didn't hurt us one bit.

Today we live in a society in which some if not many people would complain since with the Bush administration it has been divide and conquer mentality. We are outspoken, divisive at times and have developed some negative attitudes. Many for good reason.

Hopefully, our state of mind will change with new leadership and we will be able to co-operate with less self centeredness. So yes, if we are called upon to sacrifice for our fellow man in need, recycle and stop being an instant gratification society, I think we will be up to it for the good of the nation. Some, considering individual financial circumstance, will do well to just keep their head above water.

I have "sacrificed" my job, my financial independence (moved back with parents after living alone for 4 years), part of my health, most of my savings. Haven't got much left except insurance, and that expires in mid-November by state law unless I get a new job before then. I have very little doubt that I will be a "receiver," assuming that Obama does something about young adult economic issues and unemployment.
