This is Clark's big news?
His economic policy?

What a letdown.

Dean wouldn't even bubble it for two weeks.

1. Sorry to disappoint you. . .
. . .you know Clark could walk on water and some of you will criticize him for not being able to swim. Thanks for your concern, hopefully we can win you over should we secure the nomination.

2. *shrug*
I was thinking more of an important endorsement.

Guess it didn't take... Dean would announce a major policy speech in ADVANCE, and not leave us hanging for whatever the news is...

5. So, were you really expecting an endorsement today?
Gee, I'm sorry - they must have misspelled those big "tax proposals coming soon!" signs... But the proposals were formally announced yesterday, and "hinted at" since last week.

Too bad you missed them, and that as a consequence you were impertinently reminded of what Dean coulda woulda. Profound apologies for that, too.

Mention of taxes and the IRS can have strange effects on people...

17. says something about Clark
his priorites are on the policies, not hype and the horserace.

It's funny to see people imply that a candidate's policy is less important than his endorsements.

27. I'll take an overhaul of the tax code and a simple 3 line form
Over a silly endorsement any day.

From the official site

Wes Clark's Plan is Simple.

Under Wes Clark's plan, families will only need to fill out a simple, three-line form to find out if they need to pay federal income taxes, providing their income, number of children, and marital status. And the majority of families will no longer be required to file tax forms.

Wes Clark's Plan is Responsible.

The plan will provide $33 billion annually in tax relief for working families. This will be paid for without increasing the deficit by:

A 5 percentage point increase in the tax rate only on income over $1 million per year. This surcharge, which could be used only for working family tax relief, would not apply to the first $1 million of income or to any capital gains - so it will not affect 99.9 percent of taxpayers.
Closing corporate loopholes, including the ones that Enron took advantage of to unfairly cut its taxes.

Sounds good to me.

For a while Clark people thought it was Hillary or Bill, but I guess the Clintons are going to keep their word and stay out of it.

6. no sir..
Restoration of Clinton-era tax base is what Dean is proposing, not a tax hike. Stop spinning Republican talking-points please.

Big whoop for Wes who served in Vietnam. Dean provided the medically necessary information to the Army, and they ISSUED Dean a Y-1 classification. Did you know that Dean tried to apply for the Officer Candidate program? No. Well, he did.

12. Good luck with that
You've got a candidate who swears up and down there was no middle class tax cut under Bush. I think he'll be able to find a few families who disagree.

Dean's tax plan is a political disaster for the Democrats.

15. Let me show you something.
Bush's tax cuts, as disastrous it was, provided NO middle class relief - why?

Local and state taxes went UP
Utilities bills went UP (Let me give you a comparsion - last year's December electric/gas bill was $123, this year's December doubled to $243 for NO reason)
Insurance premium went UP
Cost of living expenses went UP

Thus, nullifying *'s "middle class" tax cuts, COSTING middle-class folks more money.

What Dean is planning to do is RELIEVE them of the burden and condition the states to lower the taxes down as a restoration plan.

Look at www.bushtax.com and you can see why Dean's plan works.

That tude will really help rally the vote among the millions of vets and their families.

Escpecially since Dean himself admitted he "probably could have served". If you dodged, have the balls to admit it and stand up for your decision.

42. I live in a family of vets...

In fact I'm the first male of my family not to serve in a war in America.

Why? Because I have a Y-1 condition. I have bad knees. I can still walk and run and live my life... hell I could even go skiing if I had any interest in that sport at all. But the military would laugh me out of any induction physical because of my knees.

Guess in your eyes that makes me less of an American.

That's another reason I do not want military leadership who think of civilians as lesser people in a civilian leadership position.

So, where was Wesley last night?

The rumble went on without him....

19. Clark's tax plan is revolutionary
Unlike other plans, e.g. the Bush tax cuts, General Clark's proposal would benefit the people who need tax relief the most-- working families with children. The "working poor" have been overlooked by the Bush administration.

You can shrug about this announcement, HawkeyeX, but a lot of voters will consider this proposal to be big news. (I guess I'm one of them!) I'm so tired of Republican politicians squawking self-righteously about "compassionate conservatism" while passing economic measures that send the working poor and their children ever deeper into poverty.

I think General Clark's proposal is great. He shows concern for the most vulnerable people in society. And this tax proposal demonstrates that General Clark's commitment to equitable tax relief is genuine.

those earning over $1 million and closing corporate tax loopholes.

Supply side is trickle-down economics. Flood the rich with new wealth and we all benefit. This is P-R-O-G-R-E-S-S-I-V-E.
