"If Obama wins, that just proves that there is no more racism in America"
You know a lot of conservatives are already setting up to make that argument. In fact, I heard some caller on a local conservative talk program last month say that in a way he hoped Obama would win so that "the liberals would quit their bitching about racism in America", and then we could dismantle affirmative action, and any other program that benefits minorities.

But you can expect that there will be conservative activists who argue before the Supreme Court, the next time an affirmative action case comes up, that AA is no longer needed because we now have a black president and racism is dead in America.

1. I've heard that argument also
It's shallow thinking.

3. We could hope that would end racial issues
But those making those statements are probably the biggest racists in the country.

5. Except that it'll go something like "If that no good ni***r wins it proves that
eveything's great in this country and they can stop their bitchin'".

6. Before conclusions are drawn, we usually look at patterns instead of one off exceptions.
I don't think that a research scientist would call one man winning an election a useful data sample.

7. No it doesn't.
It'll prove that enough of America has overcome decades of ingrained racism to finally elect a black man to the highest office in the land, but it won't say there's no more racism.

8. It will prove racism is dying in the country, but not that it's over.

13. That's right. Or another way. There are enough that will vote for a black or possibly other minority

9. I'm sure some attempted to make that same argument after slavery ended too
While getting Obama into the White House will be a great milestone, it won't keep discrimination from happening to other African-Americans. What a stupid argument.

11. I heard one C-Span caller say there is no way she would vote for Obama.
If he won, though, she thought maybe white people would do better under a black president because "all the white presidents gave everything to the blacks."
No need to say which line she called on....
