Watching Morning Joe this morning really got me going...I almost chucked the remote at the TV.

I don't know why I was watching, maybe it's because I really love Mika Brzezinski, but I did. During the opening, Joe looked to Mika and said they had new poll numbers that were really bad for "her guy". Knowing her father supports Obama, I knew he didn't mean John McCain, so now I had to watch. Were there new polls released today I didn't know about?

So the show starts off with the MLB All-Star Game and then they discuss the top stories and work their way into the poll results. Joe starts it out by saying there is a New York Times poll and that this poll always seems to tilt to the left a few points. That left me scratching my head, because the New York Times poll actually had Obama down 2 points more than the ABC one released the same day. But, whatever, it still had Obama up!

Joe gives the results, Obama at 45, McCain at 39. Not bad, a huge issue one could look at is the fact McCain can't even break 40%, even after all this campaigning. Oh but Joe doesn't even discuss that and decides to bring up Obama's real troubles.

He starts off by saying Americans do not think Obama is patriotic. Then gives a poll where only 18% of voters say Obama is NOT patriotic. All Joe could do was focus on the top-half, the very patriotic part, where McCain was crushing Obama. Except, there was also an entirely different category of somewhat patriotic, which is still patriotic, and where Obama cleaned up. So while Americans don't think he's very patriotic (read: hum God Bless America when you're in the shower, piss red, white and blue), most still think he's patriotic. But would Joe report that? Hardly!

Then he decides to discuss a "troubling" number where only 5% of blacks approve of John McCain. He is completely befuddled by this, since how could anyone not approve of a war hero, who suffered in a POW camp? It's blasphemous! Then he suggested the blacks were inciting a race war! At this point, Brzezinski piped up and said Joe was completely wrong, but it didn't stop him from continuing. He never once mentioned the fact many whites did not approve of Obama, why? Is it justifiable for whites to not approve of Obama, Joe, but it isn't for blacks to not approve of McCain? Of course, I wish someone would have said maybe it was McCain's non-support for the MLK holiday that pissed off blacks. Or could it be the ISSUES that blacks do not agree with? Brzezinski brought this up, but Joe shot her down and basically said his POW status trumped all.

Then when I expect him to discuss McCain's troubles, the ones that actually count, he doesn't. Joe, for all the doom and gloom you had for Obama, McCain is still losing and losing on the most important issue of the day: THE ECONOMY. So even if Americans don't think Obama is VERY patriotic, they still want him over that VERY patriotic McCain. It's 1992 all over again, but Joe fails to see it. A president who's older, out of touch on domestic issues running on a more foreign policy based campaign. His opponent is a young, attractive candidate who has some problems, but ultimately wins because of the economic issues.

This is what the media doesn't get.

When it comes to domestic issues, and Americans are struggling, they will vote their pocket book over national security, bullshit patriotism and yes, even skin color and experience.

But by all means, Joe, keep focusing on what Obama's struggles and ignore that of McCain's, maybe it'll make the loss sting more if you don't expect it. And nothing will be better than watching your ugly, CHUD like face stunned on the Wednesday after the election.

That's the only MSNBC show I watch anyway.

2. Its the economy, Stupid!
I would watch the exchange but I dont think I could stand 6 minutes of Joke Scarborough. The Bush crime family leared a lesson after Poppy; steal as much as you can while in office because we're not going to get another chance to destroy justice.

4. He was disgusting this morning
It's was sickening what he was saying this morning. No one called him on his statements. It was ridiculous for him to say this was going to be a nasty racial election based on those poll numbers. It was also stupid for him to be upset that people wouldn't vote for a war hero. As Clark said, his service in the war has nothing to do with how he would be as President.

18. The media knows EXACTLY what it is doing ...
the marching orders are in, it is clear as day ...

Obama's name will be followed with something negative - Obama's problem, Obama and flip flop, whatever ...
McCain is the trusted Commander in Chief ...

The is it, it is all McCain has is his service, and it is one of the few things the Rs can pull out of their bag now, to question any D's patriotism ...

Get used to it, cause it is going to keep coming, nonstop ...

5. you love Mika Brzezinski?
Edited on Wed Jul-16-08 01:51 PM by ErinBerin84
WHY?

haha, yeah, I am so conflicted about Morning Joe bc sometimes they have good guests ( former ambassador today was good), but the actual analysis by the "hosts" is so incredibly bad and dizzying. And also, I think I have some masochistic thing about morning Joe where I love complaining about it. But I keep going back. And yeah, Joe was especially puketastic today with his "Why don't African Americans love a war hero?". Mika really doesn't win any love from me since most of the times she tries to "pipe up", she just says "Oh, please. Now stop. Hmmmmmmmm". Too much of the time, her spin on things just seems to be the same as Joes, and if it's different, she must be afraid to speak up too forcefully about it. There were ( I think) two threads about today's Morning Joe in the general discussion presidential forum, and maybe four in the general discussion thread. So you were not alone in being pissed off about it.

22. She's slammed Obama on more than one occasion.
I say slammed b/c she'll just state something as a straightforward fact when that really isn't the case.

She seems to have MAJOR father issues. Her one brother is for McCain so maybe she's showing Dad by going after Obama. Plus, she might
be super driven to succeed b/c of these issues.

Sometimes she acts really wacky. Not sure if it's the caffeine or some type of medication.

11. I see. So blacks aren't as patriotic as whites now, huh
Since more blacks are supporting Obama, they must be ok with voting for someone who shares ethnicity and lack of love for flag pins. Yep, those militant, anti-American negroes are gonna stick together.

:sarcasm:

What an ass. That's just offensive on so many levels. He needs to be taken to school, post haste. And then to the woodshed.

12. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 .....
before this OP gets the snarky, ubiquitous, "why are you watching that crap" reply.

I am an early riser and am in the habit of watching this train wreck while my morning coffee is dripping in the pot. I used to try to watch C-Span, but the call in viewers sounded too much like a bunch of drunken ninety-five year olds.

morning smo was particularly vile this morning. He must have missed an opportunity to beat his compliant new wife because she bore him his new spawn a couple of weeks ago.

But a couple weeks ago I switched to reading a magazine (Harper's, usually) instead of watching TV during my breakfast. I get less angry and I learn more, too.

19. You do realize Morning Joe is meant to be the opposite of Countdown, right?
I don't mean to minimize your annoyance. I just don't watch that shit because I know it's going to be slanted as hell.

Plus, I don't find Joe to be all that intelligent on-air. I actually suspect that he doesn't believe half of the shit he says.

24. no, I think that they really do try and pass it off as a balanced show
(Mika is supposed to be the "liberal" to Joe's "conservative"). And there have been several articles about it lately since it was renewed that promote it as a balanced show, though you're right, it isn't (or shouldn't be) to anyone who watches. And that stupid ad with him that they used to show "Nobody owns me. The Republican party doesn't own me...the Democratic party doesn't own me..."Yeah, Joe. You're a real free agent.
