Jib Jab is politics for idiots
and has been from day one.

I had nothing more.

1. It's comedy
Your editorial would make a little more sense if Jib Jab was ever trying to be a serious political resource...it's not politics for anyone, it's humor to be laughed at...did you ever think it was anything else?

2. They're great animators, but only average writers.
I have yet to be impressed by their work on more than an eye candy level.

16. They have high production values and animators
but since they came out in 2004, I think they are
fairly wishy washy type humor, but that's is explained by
one being a republican and the other a democrat.

There are tons of funnier stuff on the internet and none of it
is done by republicans.

To my knowledge, and per conversations w/both, they are apolitical, equal skeptics of both.

19. "apolitical" What a lovely word which means "not involved in politics"
I remember that during the Kerry/Bush election
when they came out of nowhere. One brother leaned
to Bush or republican and the other brother leaned democratic.
It was an interview I read back then on how they got started, their background
and whose talent did what on their satire.

They are not "apolitical"

20. "apolitical" as in antipathy toward both major political parties
Edited on Wed Jul-16-08 01:47 PM by npincus
which is the case. Greg and Evan are my cousins, so I know a little more about them than you. They were around years before "This Land" went viral and most of their animation work was not about politics.

Edited on Wed Jul-16-08 02:00 PM by Ichingcarpenter

Who are they gonna vote for and who did they vote for in the last election?

22. I've written a few posts on this thread
describing their point of view as I see it: they don't play for either team. I did not interrogate them when i saw them last at their Grnadma's birthday party, about their voting history; and it is their business who they voted for and will vote for. Rather obnoxious, no? You can email and query them directly if you're interested.

Nor my characterization of the sensibility it displays, even the artistic quality of it, and of the audience it appeals directly to.

I laughed. You can't take that site too seriously though. It's just one person's (or persons, not sure how many people are involved in that site) interpretation of the race.

9. The latest is awful
They hit and miss, this one misses big time. Political satire is not and should never be taken for 'eye candy' or simple humor. A point is always made, always.

They sell greeting cards. These attempts as political commentary just get them free pr for their business. That is obvious. These are commercials for 'e-cards'. Big whoop.

12. certainly you are entitled to your opinion about their work
but I will take exception to your snark "they sell greeting cards". JibJab's been around a long time; they are web animators who have gotten a lot of web animation work from the private sector by virtue of their early work, and became 'known" when on of their animations went viral. From a small company, they've grown slightly bigger and have to write more paychecks for staff. The greeting cards are an outgrowth of that, and not the other way around. Last I heard, they were workinjg on a full length feature film. They are the 2 nicest, most down-to-earth guys you would ever want to meet. I know this because they're my cousins.

Anyone is entitled to not like their work, of course. I give them big props because they've worked extremely hard over the years, gave up lucrative jpbs in the private sector to go on their own and pursue their dream.

17. they're on the West coast now
& I rarely see them- last time was in '05 at their Grandma's 90th birthday party. But will remember your hug! Yeah, their old stuff (web site) was great... you can still access some of it at the JibJab archive on their site. I don't care if their work is dissed- to each his own- but personal insults about these 2 sweethearts does piss me off! What amazes me about them is that they truly have no left/right bias (hard for me, a hardcore Dem to fathom) and this shows in their work.

Best to you! :hi:
