What ever made McCain think he was funny?
Edited on Tue Jul-15-08 09:48 PM by Wetzelbill
That guy tells the most tasteless jokes I have ever heard. And even when he isn't saying something tasteless and tries to joke around, he wiffs on at least half of them. I remember watching him on Conan's show I think and he tried to say something funny and nobody laughed. It was uncomfortable, then he joked about how some jokes work and others like that one don't. But he seemed hyperactive and uneasy, like he was trying to be too funny. Now McCain can be funny, like when he was on Saturday Night Live, or when on Conan's show they did a little prerecorded segment with him. But that's with some really smart comedy writer's telling him what to do.

When McCain cracks jokes on his own, it's "Bomb Iran" or making fun of a little girl's looks, or joking about an ape raping a woman. It's bizarre. He creeps me out a lot of the time. Something isn't right about that guy, a normal person doesn't say things like that.

I think also his media buddies have covered for him for so long that he has become accustomed to getting away with anything. Except now we have youtube and things like that, so people can see him saying these things. I get why his GOP Senate colleagues overwhelmingly supported Bush in 2000. They've probably seen him act like a loose cannon for decades now. Thad Cochran seems appalled that this guy might be president. It's like McCain with nukes haunts his dreams.

3. did you not follow the sex scandals involving navy personnel?

while I would not indict all navy personnel, clearly the leadership sets the tone and we saw, for example in the Tailhook scandal, what that tone is.

5. well yeah but I know people who were in the Navy
and they don't act as goofy as McCain. Jim Webb was in the Navy, and he's said a few things that were misogynistic before, but he's learned from them. That alone doesn't explain how nutty McCain is half the time.

4. That boy just ain't right!
I'm not a psychologist, but telling jokes like that and seeing nothing wrong with it just doesn't seem like 'normal affect' to me.

6. I could see maybe screwing up off the cuff
But that Chelsea Clinton joke was something he had planned. How could he even think that wasn't stupid? That's just not having the elevator reach the top floor or something.

7. Alfred P Thoolson (pictured below) thought he was a crack up and laughed at everyone of his jokes

The two became fast friends when they shared the same cell in the Hanoi Hilton.

Unfortunately no one else saw him and the Army has no record of him.

And McCain developed the friendship during the time he was in solitary confinement.

10. When you are a US Senator people tend to laugh at your jokes
and in the Senate I can't believe it would take much for McConnell or Cornyn or Sessions to laugh --they all are so happy that anyone talks to them that they will do whatever keeps their post-high school world alive

13. I'm obviously not a Republican or McCain supporter
just like pretty much anybody on this site outside of a troll would be, but even I hate seeing him go down like that. He says some lame joke and wiffs or he puts his foot in his mouth "Bomb Iran" style and I keep thinking how this guy is actually a U.S. Senator who represents our country on trips abroad and on television newscasts etc seen around the world. I'd be much happier if we had two candidates with some dignity and poise who the world can look at and hope to emulate. Instead, we have Bush routinely making an ass out of himself both at home and abroad and now McCain who is about as bad. That's how the world thinks of us, like we're all dipshits like Bush and McCain. I hate that.
