Anyone who says we shouldn't criticize Obama until after the general election is cruising for another bitter loss to the Republicans. In fact, the only way that Obama can lose is if he moves to the right too much, because if he does that, then he'll be portrayed as being a "flip flopper" by the Republicans and "just like a Republican" by the base of our own party, and nobody wants to hear that. Obama needs to be reminded over and over of what got him this far....the Left and Progressive ideals. It's our job to remind him of that, not ignore him or give him a free pass just because we're all gonna vote for him. Obama prided himself as being one of the more liberal, progressive Senators. Let's make sure he keeps it that way and that he doesn't wander too much. Otherwise, what's the point.

Not some of the garbage threads a few people continue posting.

6. Yup. I agree with that for sure but I've seen lots of posters suggesting we shouldn't criticize him
until after the election is over and that is just asking for trouble.

13. It's not my fault that you tried to become a Capital Hill member and couldn't get in
If that weren't the case, you wouldn't be wasting bandwidth posting about something that has nothing to do with the subject of my thread. You're only here in this thread whining about me because I didn't agree with your post that Al Gore should be VP again. You should try getting a life instead of stalking others on DU.

17. You folks always get your way here. Congrats.
I only responded to this post. Not the other.

We are effectively silenced here by the mods if we raise a peep about this stuff. Congratulations.

Post as you will.

5. For me it is where and how you criticise him...

...too many people so used to posting screaming outrage vids to youtube every time anything upsets them. Really this is an inside-the-family argument among progressives and perhaps with a libertarian houseguest or two present. Not something to be doing on the front lawn in front of undecided voters.

Not that I'm saying keep it all hushed up, just don't be a publicity hound about it, until after the election. Then let loose.

7. Then if he gives in to criticism he can be a flip-flop-flipper.
Take FISA, for instance. Many were upset because he changed his position, that he flip flopped, but had he changed it back again it would have been a flip-flop-flip. I saw an interview this morning that Senator Feingold did with Wisconsin Public Television and he said he was disappointed by everyone who voted for the FISA bill, not just Obama and that he was looking forward to working with President Obama to change the law (which clearly indicates that Feingold beleives the law can be changed, even though is was passed now).

Everyone who believes they have an obligation to be unreservedly critical of Obama before the election, yet at the same time claim they want to see him elected, should ask themselves if what they post will help or hurt his election chances. Also, it is very easy and safe to post "constructive criticism" behind an anonymous usernames on the internet. I believe that the vast majority of these people are sincere, but I would have to be naive if I thought they all were.

8. I do think that Obama's recent rightward-leaning has resulted in mcLame closing the gap.

And that's very troubling.

That said, I think we just have to get him in and see what we can do from there.

12. Stop your incessant whining about me, Bobo, and get your sorry ass out to do something constructive
for our Party, will ya?

Either that or try responding to the subject of the thread instead of spreading your usual seeds of hatred and apathy.

16. Timetable does not = deadline
Obama has always said he will tell the Generals what he wants, under what conditions, and in what time-frame. Realistically he may not and probably will not get it within the exact time he sets but he will make them work toward that goal so that we do get out of Iraq within a reasonable time frame.

18. Maybe you should take over as the chief political strategist for Obama's campaign.
Hey, they have run a brilliant campaign so far. I trust that they know what they are doing.
