1. Yes, Bush is indeed a petulant alcoholic...
Edited on Sun Jul-13-08 04:16 PM by Kutjara
...who has infantile tantrums when he doesn't get his way. I think the similarities with Churchill end there, however.

I'm having a harder time seeing McCain as Roosevelt. Maybe if he grew a moustache...

He's a humble man about how he compares himself to others.

7. Absolutely, after a G-8 eight course meal and several bottles of
Cabernet we'd all be like Churchill. Rotund.

13. TR would swat McCain with his riding crop and Churchill would throw a drink in GWB's face.
That's how gentlemen fight!

10. It was during bush's first week in office when he told the press
TR was going to be his "role model"...I can't think of too many that would find the analogy appropriate. bush is about as far from TR as I am from Calvin Coolidge!

There was no corruption in the TR WH, he ran a pretty tight ship as far as matters of state go, he was outgoing, affable, honest, a good administrator and well liked....precisely the opposite of bush.

It's also been a good 6 years since the GOP has used the "Party of Lincoln" ploy as well. But there is an odd connection there as well...Lincoln tried to hold back and then win a civil War; bush started one and feeds it every day with the blood and sinew of our nation's youth. Lincoln despised war; bush relishes it, he can't get enough carnage, he is one evil bastard.

14. I tried to repress that. It makes me ill. TR would have nothing to do with the R Party now...
ER: Uncle Tee, I'd hogtie you until you became a Democrat...

15. Under the current circumstances, he would have been one!
Eleanor...now there is woman to emulate, not many of her stripe left around much more, she did it all, set the standard, quite the woman!

16. It was a real sore spot in the R family...
that ER - even before TR died - was his true legacy. When he won the Nobel Peace Prize, he gave a chunk of the cash to Eleanor "because she will know what to do with it," unlike his unruly spawn. His sister, Corinne's comment in the 1920s that "Eleanor is more like Theodore than any of his own children" really pissed off TR's kids.

17. She was a remarkable person...
Always on the go, always trying to solve problems, always had an ear to listen to people...She did a hell of a lot during WWII as well, bringing FDR true reports from what was going on in the Pacific and Europe.

Remarkable woman.
