The economy... today's news from the DOW
and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are all but bright

They will do all they can to keep it going through the election

COUNT ON IT

But by my estimation the coming depression is just around the bend... and the perfect distraction to that will be war

I know most folks don't want to think of this... and sadly neither candidate has a solution that will ring true to the voter on Fredie Mac and Fannie Mae... that said, Obama is mostly reaching for Keynes in general, while McCain is not... he is still preaching what got us into this hole

But the next president will inherit a country in the middle of a depression and a war on three fronts

Food for thought....

Oh and an empire on decline

1. Nope, no depression. Just ridiculous wealth polarization.
The truth is that if you aren't in the lower middle class or below, the American economy isn't that bad right now. What we are experiencing is the fallout of fiscal irresponsibility and tax cuts to those who don't need them while financing an expensive war.

But a depression? No reason to think that. Wealth will either continue to become increasingly more polarized or our fiscal policy will be revised with more progressive and equitable taxation.

3. Nope, sorry.
Economic data have not even shown this recession to be worse than the one in 1991.

But go ahead and have fun preparing for the apocalypse.

5. apocalypse
Sometimes, economic apocalypse is more palatable than the idea of things growing very gradually worse over a very long period of time.

6. You could be right, predictions are difficult,
however I personally have not seen an economic climate more unsettled than this one, including that odd crackup known as 'stagflation' that started in the early 70's and lasted for most of that decade and continued on well into that asshole reagan's reign.

Of course the last time we had this level of disparity in this country between the clowns at the top and the peasants down below was just before the '29 collapse. That of course doesn't predict shit, it is just another piece of the unpleasant puzzle known as 'the current situation'.

7. I agree with you. This will probably be the worst recession in some time, but not
a Depression with 25% unemployment and a 60% decline in GDP.

I think 5 years of stagnation is quite possible.
