The latest Pew Poll (in which Barack Obama leads John McCain 48-40) asks registered voters what religion they think Barack Obama is. Only 57% say that he's Christian. 12% say Muslim. Another 25% don't know. 1% say he's Jewish! (Must be that Aipac speech):

57% seems awfully low. On the other hand, you'd think that Obama, with a few hundred billion dollars to spend, should be able to get that number up to 75% or so by November, which would have to add a couple points to his total support.

Blair is pretty God-obsessed, and his conversion to Catholicism has been publicized; so people do know about him. But I don't really know whether Brown is Church of England or other Protestant - I'd guess the latter as he's originally Scottish; but I don't actually know. I didn't know that Duncan-Smith (former Tory leader) was Catholic until long after he'd left office. I know my current MP Evan Harris is a Godless Atheist, shock horror, Bush had better invade Oxford right now, because he's an official in the National Secular Society; but I didn't know the religion of any of my other MPs. Etc. As Alastair Campbell once said, "We don't do God".

Maybe some people think Obama's Jewish because there was an Israeli PM called Barak!
