Simple - because Kerry has been under fire from real enemies bent on killing him. He survived that. He survived cancer.

bushco's attacks must seem like absolute inconsequential chickenshit to a guy who's been through the *real* wringer.

Have you ever seen a little shit talking smack to a bigger kid? The bigger kid knows he can kick the shit out of the kid, but if he's in school, he can't. Kinda like this situation. At least in Vietnam/cancer, he could fight back with everything. Here, he can't, kinda like he's in school.
