Do Obama and McCain differ at all on FISA?
I'm not talking about whether one voted for it and the other did not vote at all.

In their public statements, speeches, etc., is there any indication of differences between these two Senators on this issue?

I have only followed this in terms of the bill itself and where I stand, but not on the differences between the two presidential candidates. Thanks for any help.

1. I don't know but did McLame show up for the vote?
If he didn't, then Obama could have done the same and not run any risk
vis-a-vis Bomb Bomb. If it was such an "imperfect bill," then a non-
vote would have been a better option for Obama.

4. No, he didn't show up. Perhaps Obama did vote for it in order to
triangulate? Now he can talk about national security and say McCain didn't even bother to vote....

2. McCain's in favor of telecom immunity, Obama voted against it.
McCain accepts telecom lobbyist and other special interest money, Obama does not.

5. Yes, despite Obama's best efforts to remove it.

7. So he voted for immunity, essentially.
I'm honestly not trying to bash him for it, as I myself am not exactly against FISA, so I don't have a huge problem with today's vote, as some here appear to.

9. I am keeping up. And I'm not insulting you.
Why do these discussions have to go there so quick with some people?

But back to the issue:

He voted AGAINST immunity via the Dodd amendment.

But in the end, he voted for a bill that includes immunity.

12. And I suppose you're honestly not trying to compare McCain with Obama.
No way whatsoever like Nader did with Gore and Bush.

Honestly.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm late for a picnic on the moon. Honestly.

14. I'm not.
McCain didn't even have the guts to show up and go on record. Obama did. That took courage. And again I am probably closer to Obama's position on this than 90% of DU, just browsing through the posts.

Obviously it looks like we'll be unable to have a discussion since you have more insults and insinuations than you do information. Not sure why you are so angry.

Thanks all the same.

16. I should say I am not EQUATING the two.
Edited on Wed Jul-09-08 04:53 PM by hiaasenrocks
Comparing them is possible, as the word "compare" means to find similarities AND differences.

But enough of today's English lesson! :hi:

Hey, if we can have one pedant, we can have two, right?

6. Yes. The Dodd Amendment, which would have stripped it and which Obama voted for,
failed to pass the Senate.

10. Read scheming daemon's post..
It explains the bill Obama voted for..

McCain would have likely voted for the original bill.

But who knows -- He was once again a no show.
