10. You have to wonder about McCain, after
reading the vile stuff that was thrown at him by the Bush camp. I'm actually beginning to wonder if he is a little nuts to be hugging this bastard now! :eyes:

15. Kerry wrote the letter McCain speaks of that condemned Bush's tactic
at the time. He had the other vet Senators, Rs and Ds, sign it.

31. Get a CLUE: that's a laughable ad!
Sorry. This ad is so out of touch with what animates veterans, red-blooded Bush 'Murricans, and other gun-happy militarists that it's not even funny.

Trot out one right wing kook whining "that really hurts," and imagine that this is going to somehow stop Bush people from hitting Kerry? Or score points with Republican fence-sitters?

Yeesh. This is not the way to do it.

The way to do it was never to open this Pandora's Box in the first place--unleashing all the evasions and dishonesty about America's despicable role in Vietnam, and trying to recast that shameful tragedy in the light of phony heroism.

But the neo-liberals blundered ahead, and now that it's open, Kerry has to play the tough guy to the end. He has to out-macho Bush. That's the way: he must be a bigger asshole, because this debate is being framed by militarist assholes. The least effective way is a wimp-out ad, which resurrects the whackjob McCain talking about his bruised feelings. Republicans rejected McCain soundly in favor of Bush; what does that tell you?

33. It shows a pattern from the Bush* Camp -- hiding behind others
and slamming veterans' service, without the guts to take any responsibility for it.

My hunch is that does hit a nerve. It's not about bruised feelings -- it's more about showing Bush* for the despicable little man he is, and putting the current SwiftSmears in context. He was behind that smear in 2000, and he's behind this one in 2004.

I think it's effective. I don't think being a "bigger asshole" is really the way to go.

2. You know what would be serious to me?
A full and detailed study, with forensic accounting, supoenas and depositions, not to mention any other applicable legal trick that raises stress levels to off-the-graph scales, into not only the Not-So-Swifties, but into the financial support network that gave it birth. Include in that any website that apparently has any connection to this sad and sordid mess. Hound them to the ends of the earth. Throw lawyers at them by the ton. Mummify them in paperwork. Out them for what they really are:

Certainly some of the lowest vermin to show their visages on the political scene in the last 100 years or more.

I mean rip it apart like a hornet's nest. Screw the stings. There is a story in that mess. There really is. You just know it. It will be another Watergate.

5. I like this, too
Beginning today, the Kerry-Edwards campaign will begin a systematic campaign to expose the president’s tactics, with a special emphasis on the veterans community. “Old Tricks” will be emailed to 200,000 veterans activists who will share it in their communities, posted on veterans websites and emailed to the entire Kerry online community of well over 1 million supporters.

Kerry needs to get MORE aggressive....look at the fact sheet you provided with this ad...they are doing the same things to Kerry with McClellan saying Kerry was beside himself yesterday...you guys should take clips such as "fool me once" Bush DENYING to admit HIS mistakes, Bush outwardly LYING, Bush contradicting himself and question HIS mental status...there are no shortages of Bush bumbling on film.

This is a DECENT internet ad...and it does serve a purpose...but they are following the same recipe with Kerry as MCCain...THIS NEEDS TO GET TURNED IN on Bush...the "elite" clip from Michael Moore's movie..."I hit the trifecta"...Kerry's camp needs to take Bush's OWN words and portray him as the sick uncaring person he is...this commercial is good but it isn't enough...you guys NEED to put HIM on the defensive as you had several weeks ago..he isn't anymore.

to put it more succinctly...you need to hit a gutter ball with a gutter bat.

focus the .50-caliber machine guns on the attackers, beach the boats, and track them down.

Oh, and the Texas Bar might be interested in lawyers who pressure witnesses to sign false affidavits.

25. Well...
Can't run from the DNC, AFAIK, unless it says the DNC is responsible for the ad's content. It's a web-only ad, at least for now. But I think the DNC might pick up on this, after their latest ad with the Air Force guy.

...not in that debate.

Here's the transcript:

He did the same bullshit he's doing now, with the added "they criticized my Daddy!" whine.

Dispicable.

24. good start, keep it going
This is a good start. Now get the mainstream media to run with it. They love McCain anyway, so that should be easy.

I'd like to see this paired with that recent Bush event where one of his handpicked "questioners" repeated some of the lies about Kerry, and Bush smirked and said he appreciated the comments.

36. It was just run on Keith Olberman's show a few minutes ago
Keith was really hitting hard on it tonight with editor of Chicago Tribune, etc. Also, he ran the remark of the Iraqi soccer player who told Bush to butt out with that Olympic ad because they didn't want to be a part of any political campaign. And then Keith made a remark about "an ad" (and I just could get what he was talking about)--there's something about an Iraqi or Afghan Olympic athlete denouncing Bush's Olympic ad and saying Bush "slaughtered so many people". What's great is that by news media presenting these ads as 'news' they are reaching people.

37. oh, a post script...Olberman also reported on the US Olympic
Committee telling Bush to take down the ads because they have the exclusive rights to advertise, etc. regarding the Olympics. Bush officials said "we didn't use real Olympic athletes in the ads"----yep, and didn't use a REAL president in them either!!!!!!!
