Examples of the corporate media propagating the lie that McCain is a "maverick"

“The press loves McCain,” explained NBC host Chris Matthews (9/10/06). “We’re his base.”
http://www.thechrismatthewsshow.com/html/transcript/index.php?id=22&selected=1

“Those of us on the Straight Talk Express eight years ago got a breathtaking journalistic opportunity: to be inside the lively mind and heart of a leading contender for president. McCain was as joyously combative as Popeye and as earnestly confessional as Oprah.”
-Newsweek’s Howard Fineman
http://www.newsweek.com/id/114818

"John McCain is the most famous maverick of the last half of the 20th century."
- CBS' Bob Schieffer
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/05/20/ftn/main2829678.shtml

"McCain is allergic to blind party discipline and builds radically different coalitions depending on his views on each issue.”
- David Brooks
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/08/opinion/08brooks.html?hp

“To be sure, no one can accuse McCain of pandering."
- Howard Kurtz
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/25/AR2007042502989.html

"McCain is a -- if there's any candidate that can fight against the tide this year on the Republican side, it's John McCain."
- Joe Scarborough

1. It is really horrifying how willing they are to ignore facts about him.
I knew it was bad, but seeing all those sycophantic comments lined up like that really drums in how successfully JSM III's decades long cultivation of the press has paid off. It is still working, even as JSM III has aligned himself so closely with such a destructive administration as Bush-Cheney's has been. It is sickening to see those respected journalists so carelessly toss the nation's interests aside in fawning over someone who is now so clearly unfit to rule the country. K&R !!

This just scratches the surface...
There were some statements by many others on the corporate media channels that still keep the myth alive of someone who has voted 95% of the time for Bush policies in 2007 is somehow a "maverick".

Maybe they mean this:

4. And they are very effective
at sowing doubts
in our electorate.

That is a problem.

3. I haven't heard him called a "flip-flopper" once YET despite his many flip-flops.
The media is aiding McCain in calling OBAMA a flip-flopper (sometimes with a "?" after it) but it's definitely a pro-McCain bias.

5. Yeah. McCain "evolves". Obama flip-flops.
They're not even hiding the bias.

6. Exactly. They even stick up for him, interrupting Dem. strategists who DO call him
out on flip-flopping on immigration and drilling, to name two, saying things like, "But isn't he just responding to what the people want?" :eyes:

7. The Repig meme is "shift"...
I've seen the term be used several times regarding how McCain has completely changed his opinion on policies... the Repig puppets refer to it as a "shift" that just about anyone is allowed to do... except for black guys running for President with funny names, even if they haven't actually "shifted" their views.

9. Kurtz, Captain Dead Intern, and Brooks are hardly unbiased in their assessments.
Tweety just hitches his wagon to whoever's star is brightest at that given point in time.

But Schieffer surprises me--I thought he'd know better.

11. Schieffer has been oddly lazy on many issues...perhaps he's retiring soon
He could never fill in for Dan Rather after they took Dan down for trying to expose the Chimp. I rarely watch him.

10. The "maverick" is a good solider for the neocons.
The Media Heathers have a long tradition of schmoozing the GOP during election cycles. Obama needs some sassy surrogates out there to poke a hole in that nonsense.

K&R :hi:
