Is there any chance that Senator Snowe could endorse..
our nominee?
Or Senator Chafee?

Any chance we could attempt some persuasion?

1. Any national level Republican...
...that endorses our nominee had best go Independent, switch parties, or count on being "symbolically crushed" by the RNC. It's not impossible, but unlike the DNCs kid glove treatment of Zell, the bitch, Miller, the GOP will sabotage or kill any that go against their boy king. Look at what they did to Voinovich <sp> just because he didn't want to give Bush ANOTHER giveaway to his friends...

2. I suspect that all moderate Republicans...
are already on a hit list. I mention once again what they did to Marge Roukema here in NJ. She was a reliable, but quite moderate, Republican, with a guaranteed seat. Not rightwing though, and dared to actually discuss things with House leadership, so they set her up with a wingnut primary opponent and eventually drove her out of the House. She pulled off the election the first time round, so they dissed her by pulling her seniority for committee chairs.

No Republican moderate can pull a Zell without changing parties, but if they feel secure enough, they could just sit back and not work for Shrub.

3. no
Snowe is not going to switch parties, which they would have to do, I think before they endorse a nominee(if they intend to stay in elected office, unlike Zell)

Chafee would only switch parties if there was a one seat difference in the senate and doing so would put dems in the majority ala what's his face from Vermont, Jeffords

4. Chafee is my senator
And he has been quoted in the local paper doubting whether he will campaign for Bush. He declined the role of chairman of his re-election campaign, which was quickly accepted by the governor.

Endorse a Dem; doubt it.
Endorse the prez*; no.

5. Sen and husband are Rep. I am sure they will stay that way
She has become rich in her job so I am sure she will stay in congress and do more of less what the people who vote for her want. Maine people do not seem to be way to the right. We are a high voting state, as they go, and she got in with a high percent. Even as a Dem we sort of like her.
