and in addition, the rest of the field was even more mushroom-hallucinations-at-high-noon-in the-desert bizarre they couldn't stop a guy whose Straight Talk Express was running on fumes.
The junta could once peddle bat guano sandwiches to their base, and the idiots chowed down hungrily. Not too much anymore. The idiots are beginning to drift away from the Emperor's Svengali, maybe because they sense through instinct that the smart money is going elsewhere. With a lot of things precarious now, there's only so much time to cash in on the Grand Old Gravytrain for the sleek Republican fatcats. I think whatever passes for the real right-wing braintrust has decided it's time to withdraw from the field. They'll be back, of course. But they'd be just as happy to go catch a breather and count their winnings from the game they've rigged so tenaciously. They're done for now, and if everything falls apart completely, as a direct consequence of everything they've done and deliberately not done, they're vindicated anyway because there were no more trickle-up pennies from hell in the offing.
As for the base, well, the braintrust will just screw them. After all, they've been doing it for decades and the idiots aren't even sharp enough to understand just who it is who has a knife to their ribs.
I think there's a much greater chance that they're scared about Congressional races this year. I think they wrote the Presidency off months ago. They still have the Judiciary, and it's been doing yeoman's work on their behalf, for the most part. That will do them for a while.
