Bayh spokesman joins Obama’s campaign
WASHINGTON — In another indication that the Obama campaign plans to contest GOP Indiana this fall, the campaign has hired Sen. Evan Bayh's press secretary to serve as Obama’s Indiana press secretary.

Jonathan Swain was Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign spokesman in Indiana for the May 6 primary that Clinton won.

Presumptive presidential candidate Barack Obama has also recently assigned Emily Parcell, who was political director for the campaign in Iowa, to be state director in Indiana.

And Indiana is one of the 18 states where Obama is running his first general election ad.

Swain said the Obama team plans to campaign aggressively in Indiana.

“They feel Indiana is very much in play,” Swain said.

The last time Indiana was carried by a Democrat presidential nominee was in 1964, when Lyndon Johnson won the state as part of a nationwide landslide.

1. Sounds good! Is this the ad that
harold ford jr said "was powerful and good but not all accurate"?

I want to check that ad out and see what he's talking about..and he can either put up or shut up.

2. 50 state strategy in action.
I'm not holding my breath for Indiana to turn blue, but if it was EVER going to happen, this would be the year for it.

(and no, that does not mean putting Bayh on the ticket)

3. Doesn't have to go Blue
Just has to get close.

If McCain has to spend money in Indiana on organizing and advertising. He's fucked. Actually really fucked because he doesn't have the church network that Bushie could tap into in that state in 2004.

If Indiana isn't called 30 seconds after the polls close on November 4, 2008. I'll know we are going to win.

5. I don't believe Indiana was 30 seconds after polls closed in 2004.
Also, keep in mind that Indiana has 2 time zones.

6. Indiana was the first state called for Bush
Edited on Mon Jun-23-08 08:40 PM by Jake3463
and their polls close at 7 so the people out by Chicago stop voting at 8 east coast time. At least they did in 2004.

The reason I know is because I lived there in 2004 and As soon as it hit 8pm, Indiana was called for Bush.

Bush won by 20 points in Indiana or about 500,000 votes.

10. Majority of Indiana at that time was 6pm Eastern for polls closing
NW and parts of Southern Indiana were at 7pm Eastern.

Indiana hours for voting are 6am to 6pm.

Indiana was the first to call in 2004 but it wasn't when the polls closed at 6pm. 2004 I believe Indiana did not call it immediately after the polls closed as it had in previous elections.

Illinois voting hours are 6am to 7pm Central (7am to 8pm Eastern)

11. I do agree that if it is close it will doom McCain
Hopefully, the combination of Obama and the Governor's race will work to the benefit of both races and other elections.
