Patrick Fitzgerald for AG?
Sure, he might not be a vocal enemy of the right, but he's a proven by-the book law-and-order type of guy who isn't afraid of anybody.

He might even CRUSH YOUR HEAD!

Seriously though.... Why the Hell not?

1. If he can successfully bring Rove to justice, fine. Until then he is completely ineffectual.

4. I don't disagree that Rove is a nogoodnik,
but there's little chance that *any* AG is going to prosecute him, based upon what we currently know. Sure, it would be great to see him defend the intelligence leaks of which he approved (re: Plame), but I don't see that happening regardless of the next AG. Call me a cynic...

Me? I like John Edwards

9. I don't disagree with you.
But perhaps John Edwards would be a better "fit" as the Secretary of Labor.

(We're just throwing names around here on the internet. Call it a wish-list, if you will.)

13. This is my feeling as well
If Edwards is sincere about his campaign rhetoric, then Secretary of Labor would be a perfect position for him. It may be less glamorous than Attorney General, but I believe that he could have a significant impact in the Labor Department.

16. You're my new BFF!
Seriously, though - I'm a big believer that justice should be blind, and Fitz has shown me that he understands that philosophy. As far as I'm aware, he's never issued any public statements that show he's a partisan puppet, regardless of his personal beliefs. He's a "stand up guy" in my opinion, and that's the type of person that I'd like to have as the nation's top law enforcement officer. Call me crazy but I'd like an AG whose first allegiance is to justice, regardless of his/her political affiliation.

Make no mistakes, I hope to see economic/social liberals in the highest positions of government come next January, but the AG (like the SCOTUS) should be above such considerations. (Yes, I'm aware of the current political affiliations of the SCOTUS, for those of you would like to issue a "gotcha" to me. So don't bother, OK?)

10. He's an honest Republican but a Republican nonetheless.
I think this administration needs to clean house of that element at least the first four years until the Constitution is restored to its rightful place.

11. Yeah. He was appointed by a Republican.
So was David Souter, and I approve of each one's dedication to the law.

Is there any evidence (I'm asking honestly, mind you) that he holds any allegiance to the RNC?

12. He is non-partisan
He may have been appointed by Republicans, but he has been extremely non-partisan. Fitzgerald would be an excellent Attorney General.

15. Fitz isn't a Republican.
He is a registered independent. He history has been to do his job regardless of the affiliation of his adversary.

18. So he's an independent. That changes my stand then.
Why did articles about him say he was a Republican?

22. Which articles?
Not being snarky. I'd just like to see some Repub-friendly quotes from Fitz that proves his willingness to favor the GOP over the rule of law.

I'll be forever in your debt when you provide me with proof that agrees with your point of view.

(This is a fact-gathering thread, so your facts will be much appreciated.)

I got the impression he was a Republican. It isn't POV stuff, it's that I made a mistake. Can you be a little kinder?

24. I'm sorry.
I wasn't trying to be unkind. Really I wasn't.

I was just looking for some evidence that Fitz is some kind of partisan douchebag, and I assumed from your post that you could help me out. From what I gather, he seems like a staunch defender of the rule of law, but I'm certainly willing to consider evidence that can change my mind. That's kind of what I was asking for in suggesting that he'd be a good AG.

Please accept my apologies for being snarky. That was never my intention.

I never got the impression that he was a douchebag, actually that he was the opposite in spite of his politics.

14. He would be my first choice and this is why....His hands were
tied by the Rethuglican administration....they blocked him at every path because they never wanted an investigation.

I say make him AG and then turn him lose....this man is a ferocious and intense man and he is the kind of Guy you want to aggressively go after the Treasonous bastards.

Of course you could go with John Edwards as AG and then appoint Fitzgerald as Assistant AG .....that would be a combination that would be amazing.

20. mmm.... I don't know if prosecutors make the best SC Justices.
Call it a personal peccadillo, but I trust people who defend rather than prosecute when discussing Supreme Court possibilities.

This, however, is an internet phenomenon called a "message board" where we are free to post about issues that are important to us, such as "Who is the best bass player", "Mary Ann or Ginger?" and "Why do my balls itch on Thursday mornings?"
