Michelle Obama in for 'Very Ugly Stuff'
Like Eleanor Roosevelt and Hillary Clinton before her, Michelle Obama is becoming the would-be first lady conservatives love to hate.

Conservatives take sharp aim at Michelle Obama. The conservative National Review recently showed a stern-faced Michelle Obama on its cover, under the headline, "Mrs. Grievance." The Tennessee Republican Party questioned her patriotism.

Michelle Obama has become a favorite target for critics, drawing many to compare her arrival on the national stage to Hillary Clinton's after she infuriated conservatives when she said, "I could have stayed home and baked cookies."

It's likely to get worse.

"It's going to be very ugly stuff," Democratic strategist Tad Devine said. "They're going to try to depict her as someone who is angry, outside the mainstream and not proud to be an American."

How did a 44-year-old Harvard Law School graduate become so demonized? One reason is the increasingly viral quality of the Internet.

http://www.abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=5144546&page=1

I think we should start getting ready for this now. I can't speak for anyone else but I think we need to totally pound them into the dirt. The problem is we have never did that, no matter what they say. Everytime we take the gloves off someone on OUR SIDE starts complaining about, fairness or something else equally stupid. Take the Republicansexoffenders.com website. Some people think that's over the top. NOT if all the info correct, which it is. I think we should put that stuff on billboards. BTW I don't think attacking Cindy McCain will work. The more I read about John, the more she sounds like a abused wife. Sorry. I think it would be a better to attack conservative women in general. Brand them. We have time to think but I for one don't want to take any shit. At ALL this election.

Although, at this point, which all the lies the right has told, we really don't even owe them that much. I mean it's like, they told 5 million lies about us and we told 5 lies about them. I think we should get a free pass for at least 200 lies!

I've heard they're NOT as "loyal" as the claim to be. talking shit about their relatives all day long. Start collecting that stuff then run a "Do Conservative Women hate Their Families" article. That would be FUN!

7. McCain says it's 'tough' to be proud of America
Thank you, McSame, for the ammo.

McCain says it's 'tough' to be proud of America

In one fell swoop, John McCain has neutralized one of the most potent lines of attack against Michelle Obama, telling a questioner at a town hall event that he feels "it's tough, it's tough in some respects" to be proud of his country. Jonathan Martin delivers the goods (emphasis added):

So a man finally got a question into McCain and he had a very different sort of question.

The questioner noted that he had been educated at Princeton and Harvard and made more than $300,000 a year.

"How can I be proud of my country?" he asked.

Get it — he was mocking Michelle Obama and her statement earlier this year that her husband had for the first time in her life made her proud of her country.

Well, McCain either missed the joke or decided to ignore it and answer the question literally. I think it was the former because the individual asking the question had a thick accent that sounded to be either Indian or Pakistani, perhaps suggesting to McCain a recent immigrant grappling with America's image abroad.

"I’ll admit to you that it’s tough, it’s tough in some respects," McCain said, seeming to lend credence to Michelle Obama's observation.

McCain said America needed to be "more humble, more inclusive."

What an idiot. The rightwing nutjobs must be furious!

Roselyn Carter redux.

Except she is even meaner and smaller of mind, especially as related to any real or imagined slights that have been directed at her or her spouse, who is Jimmy Carter redux.

The fact that her political views probably make Barack Mohammed (since we are no longer to refer to his given middle name) Obama, Jr., the charismatic, messianic Magic Negro, seem almost like a courtly and old-fashioned country-club conservative, might have something to do with this general unwillingness to cut her much slack.

Sorry, I wouldn’t vote for a white who hated non-whites, and I won’t vote for a black who hates non-blacks. She can go and take her Ugly Black Grievance Syndrome somewhere else. Zimbabwe, perhaps. Maybe BO would like to run for president of Zim.

You thought they would only go after Hillary? We ain't seen nothin’ yet. This will be one of the dirtiest, meanest, ugliest elections in our nations history.

You/we may not agree with how McCain will approach this, but he must stay above this fray. It is a shame that our nation will be distracted from electing the best leader for our nation at a time when we need to be paying attention.

Or this is just the catalyst the militant groups need...

Pray for our Nation.

12. They can't help themselves.
And it will backfire again and again. When the RW went after Hillary and Chelsea back in the '90s, it made Bill Clinton more popular.

When the RW attacks the spouses and families of candidates, average people get pissed. They come to the side of the people being attacked.

In fact, I think going after Michelle is an even stupider move than going after Hillary, because Hillary was to some extent part of the administration (health care, etc), while Michelle is entirely a private citizen.

oh second to last post:

“When Ted Kennedy was diagnosed a couple weeks back, Free Republic had to shut down its forum because the negative comments got out of hand. Let that sink in: the most conservative website had to shut down a forum because they were repulsed by what was being posted about a liberal.”

Well I don’t even bother seeing what the dopes at DU say about conservatives. I gurantee they are nastier than we are as a group overall.

I think it was creative use of the definition of a “forum”. They tried to make a few threads sound like the whole forum.

They knew what they were doing I am sure.

This is the post:

“To those who feel like making their point”

A number of you have posted only to have your post deleted. You may not have used profanities. You may not have been racist, sexist or inflammatory. But you broke all standards of good taste.

When Ted Kennedy was diagnosed a couple weeks back, Free Republic had to shut down its forum because the negative comments got out of hand. Let that sink in: the most conservative website had to shut down a forum because they were repulsed by what was being posted about a liberal.

Salon is doing you a favor because even if you won’t look back and be embarrassed, a lot of other people will be pretty disappointed in you. A person, especially a liberal, should never celebrate another’s death, especially when it is someone who has never killed another person but was merely a news personality. You never liked him? Fine. But don’t celebrate his death. That’s morbid and it is, in many ways, inhumane.

Everyone is free to have these thoughts, but for the sake of your own standing you should probably keep them to yourself. If you are unable to understand this, imagine if similar things were said after your wife/parents/child died.

Though I’ll never meet them, I feel very sorry for Mr. Russert’s son and father, and the rest of his family.

You mean this one?:

> When Ted Kennedy was diagnosed a couple weeks back, Free Republic had to shut down its forum because the negative comments got out of hand. Let that sink in: the most conservative website had to shut down a forum because they were repulsed by what was being posted about a liberal.

It suffers from the usual exaggeration that the Lefties seem wont to do. There were multiple threads on the subject, as I recall, and the Admin Mods locked a few threads and deleted many individual posts, and threatened to ban some posters, because of off-color attempts at humor by a tiny minority.

There were many prayers for Ted Kennedy, and many well-wishes: these were by far-and-away the majority of posts.

I don't recall the FRee Republic as a Forum being shut down as a result. But it wasn't destined to be of our brighter moments because of a few off-color posts -- except for the timely and tasteful intervention of our Admin Mods.

Beyond that, there's nothing to get exercized over: the poster has paid the FRee Republic the high compliment of gentlemanly and civilized editorial standard for shutting down the trash talk, and in the same breath criticizing some of their own posters for not achieving those high standards.

Frankly, I'm pleased he said that. It needed to be said.

They got it wrong about FR shutting down entirely, but FR did shut down every Kennedy thread that day because each one that got started eventually had comments on it that were unbecoming.

This person is giving us a compliment, actually: saying that we have too much class to stand evil comments about even our political enemy when he’s taken ill.

We were also this decent when Bill Clinton had his heart attack. I am proud of the high standards here.

I know that they get pretty nasty over there. I occasionally read the DU Funnies thread.

the main point is right — they shouldn’t speak ill of Tim Russert.
Anybody on the left is the enemy.

They will joyfully pull the lever for a Marxist candidate that is hell bent for leather to turn our country into a socialist/communist regime and take away my/your/our freedom.

Conservatives are going to have to draw a line in the sand and take a hard stance or we're in danger of losing everything the founders and all others fought and died for.

I do not celebrate TR's death. However, I do see it as one less vote for O. Hussein and one less liberal voice on the air pitching a Marxist agenda.

(Admin Moderator: you can remove this post but it won't change my position.)

Mate — that is really cold, and I’m stunned.

That’s a helluva way to sum up a man’s entire life. It’s not like he was in al Qaeda, and to the best of my knowledge he didn’t kill anyone.

> Anybody on the left is the enemy.

No, I respectfully disagree: they are an opponent to be out-voted.

Enemies are to be bayoneted or hanged or shot or killed by whatever means at your disposal, to the point of abject defeat and unconditional surrender and/or extermination.

And there are very very few — if any — people on the left in the United States or in New Zealand where I live who would qualify for the bayonet or the rope or a bullet.

You need to get a grip. You need to grab a good handful of proportionality. Take a cold shower or a long vacation. Or a happy pill.

Crikey.

24. Thank you
I have been very impressed with some of those who supported Hillary's pres. bid.

Michelle really is a hell of a woman. A role model to emulate, a woman we should all support.

27. Appreciated, but not necessary...
women in a position such as hers are between a rock and a hard place.

They need all the support we can give them.

20. I hope this time we'll come together and OPPOSE the obvious sexism at play.
Michelle Obama is attractive and intelligent. That's a threat to many men AND women.

25. If a Dem candidate's wife killed someone with a car like Laura Bush,
it would've gotten about 1243948 hours of news air and been a central issue in the campaign. As it is, almost nobody even knows about Laura's accident when she was 17. There is a double standard, and we need to be sure that the GOP candidate's wife gets at least 20% as much airtime for stealing drugs from a charity and abusing Pecocet as a Dem's wife would.

The republicans and the republican noise machine will continue attacking Michelle Obama until average Joes get the impression that she is some evil, angry militant who wants to put all white people in concentration camps.

We CANNOT let this same nonstop negative smearing happen this time.

We can see from the rnc.com website that is 100% attack Obama and doesn't even mention McCain that they are going to make this election entirely about "vote against Obama", and the media will run with this.

Fighting back is not doing anything unseemly, it is the only way to level the playing field.

28. I don't know why the first lady is even a factor in this.
She's not the President, is not shaping policy and basically does nothing but photo ops. Who cares?

31. Republicans are assuming that Democrats will stick their fingers
in their ears and sing "la-la-la-la-la" until it goes away because that's what has happened in the past. I don't think that will happen this time, given the organization on the Internets and the level of rage in this country. We can't allow anything to just hang there.

the Rethugs hope that they can spread the Michelle hate, too.
