Cancel the fund-raising gig but give back the $300,000? - don’t think so
By now, we all know about John McCain’s aborted personal appearance with Clayton Williams who has been busy collecting dough for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. After ABC News and The Washington Post began to ask pointed questions about Williams’ infamous rape joke dating back to the 1990 governor’s race between him and Ann Richards, the McCain crew moved to quash the McCain-Williams laison with alacrity. Spokesmen for the McCain campaign also expressed ignorance about Williams’s joke and the other crass comments about Richards he made during the run for the governor’s mansion. The one that comes to mind is when he explained how he would campaign against Richards: “head her and hoof her and drag her through the dirt.” And these guys were not even aware of Williams’s comments and crude jokes as well as the controversy that still lingers in the air? Just who’s in charge of McCain’s efforts down here? Does he or she still hold the job? But the best part to the whole affair was the immediate response to follow-up questions, like does McCain think that he ought to return the $300K already raised by Cowboy Clayton: the campaign was not inclined to do so.
