Keating Five, dammit!
Instead of trying to swiftboat McCain and coming off looking sleazy, why aren't Democrats thumping on this very real scandal which shows unequivocally how corrupt this man is as a senator?

Why not?

1. Raising hand as to one ignorant of the K5 scandal
I've tried reading web search results to summarize it but am left wanting a better wrap up of
what it is all about. If someone were to package it up in a few sentences, I would happily digest it.

8. Thanks for the link...that helps understand the charge
A stink certainly could be raised with its mention but lacking any other evidence than I have
seen it could be hard to sell it to many as the gotcha grail. I am also fairly sure a defense
of mentioning that Democrats were members of the K5 would be raised.

I am not privy to how or why the MSM does or does not make mention of many or few issues out there.

11. What's important is that McCain's involvement with Keating 5 is part of a much larger picture
...of using his position on Senate committees to exert direct pressure on government entities for the benefit of his campaign contributors.

John McCain's troubles aren't merely about a possible love affair with this 40-year-old lobbyist., February 21, 2008

Another prime example (in the links above) is his role in pressuring the FCC for the benefit of Paxson Communications in 1995, one of his large campaign contributors.

What is most maddening about McCain is the sanctimonious soapbox he stands up on, claiming he's *fighting lobbyist influence in government*, while at the same time, trading his influence on committees to benefit these lobbyists, and then stuffing his pockets with their money.

The Keating Five story is only one piece of the ugly picture of John McCain's ethics.

And here's another example:

Jack Abramoff: John McCain’s other Lobbyist problem, May 19, 2008

Keep your eyes on THE BIG PICTURE of John McCain.

2. Because it could backfire on Dems. Most of the Keating Five were Dems, and Robert Bennett,
the investigator for the Senate Ethics Committe then, told the committee that McCain should not be included since there was no evidence against him. Bennett, who's a Democrat, has suggested that the only reason the committee included McCain was to avoid having the scandal entirely about Democrats.

Is that what's happening?

Is that what we are doing?

Could it be we're winning on issues, eh?

...and "better than going Black?" that one?

Why would someone phrase that thread in that, particular way?

The topic's been posted... posted... reposted, ad friggin nauseum...

One lone delegate out of thousands draws some focus for stupidity... did SHE use that language?

5. "Swiftboating" == trashing his service in Vietnam.
Win on the issues == good.

Why isn't there more of it?

9. a couple of clowns post some stuff on DU and Dem's are swiftboating McCain?
seriously...

wtf?

A General (was it Colin Powell?) did say that Military Service does not make a person a geopolitical professional... or expert.

I know folks that were in Vietnam and can't find it on a map.

Colin Powell's a Republican. Is that what you're referring to?

So, how are the Democrats "swiftboating McCain?"

Did Obama do that? Did Dean do that? Has the DNC done that? Has even Moveon dot org, done that?

I'd like to see some evidence of that. It sounds like a Republican talking point with no fucking substantiation, frankly.

I'd like to see some evidence, please.
