Obama on Kimmel: "Father's day is usually an experiment with waffles and pancakes"

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2008/06/14/a-typical-fathers-day-at-the-obama-house/

What does Barack Obama do on a typical Father’s Day?

“We usually have some experiment with waffles or pancakes and there’s a lot of cleanup afterwards,” Obama told talk show host Jimmy Kimmel in a satellite interview Friday that will air on Father’s Day.

Obama has two daughters, Sasha, 10, and Malia, 7, who he frequently describes as “perfect.”

On Father’s Day, the girls make him waffles or pancakes, he tells Kimmel. “They come with stuff we wouldn’t normally put on pancakes like whipped cream… Then we go to church,” Obama says.

Obama said he also gets a “free pass” on Father’s Day and gets to slack off around the house without getting a hard time.

“As a public servant are you required to report any gifts you receive?” Kimmel asked. “Only if the gift is over $50 but my children are pretty stingy,” the candidate replied.

Kimmel and Obama also talked about the NBA basketball finals. “You’re big on hope, senator. Do you think the Lakers have hope?” Kimmel asked. “Kobe Bryant is the best player in the world and is basically unstoppable when he is at the top of his game,” Obama said.

“Are you worried that if the Lakers do come back it might inspire Hillary Clinton to get back in the race?” Obama was quick to reply: “Sen. Clinton and I are on the same team.” Kimmel ended the interview by saying he is interested in being Obama’s running mate and would like to get on his short list of potential candidates.

Obama said he’s sure the talk-show host would bring in a lot of new voters but added “I just don’t think you vet. That whole thing with Affleck. That’s just not going to work.” Kimmel made a video earlier this month for his comedian girlfriend, Sara Silverman, where the talk-show host sings about having an affair with Affleck. The video became a You Tube phenomenon.

I can't believe our luck this year... we get to run a charming, funny guy like this against a Grumpy Old Man that even his own party doesn't like.

7. Dems always have great, talented candidates. The GOP has had the corpmedia, the voting machines
and control of the election process in most states.

The corpmedia isn't as dug in this year as they already got the favorable ownership rulings from the FCC they expected from a Bush second term, Dan Rather's lawsuit outed their need to carry water for Bush in the 2004 cycle, Katrina, KO's rise in vehemence against WH - KO's rise in ratings, and McClellan's book noting the media's compliance for Bush's agenda have all pushed the media fairness meter a bit more towards the center than the all the way to the right that it was in 2000 and 2004.

6. He's got a great sense of humor -
Good line with the Affleck bit.
Totally off the cuff even if he knew it was coming.

I can see him going to the inner cities and playing ball with the kids.
We're gonna take the Republicans to the hole and jam this election down their throat's.

I hope.
I really do.

19. (Another correction) Malia is 9, not 10. She was born in 1999. Sasha, born in 2001, just turned 7.
(I'm a fan.)

11. I worked an Obama Townhall meeting w seniors in OH yesterday and Michelle
introduced her husband. She told a funny story how she will come back home after leaving her children with Grandma and the girls get to jump on the sofa and eat things she could never imagine having for breakfast. She wonders who is this woman (her mother) taking care of my children-we never got to do these things growing up.

21. Tim Russert's death knocked it out. Sen Obama actually got the news while en route to the
airport and gave a press conference before boarding the plane leaving.

There were about 25 Seniors, including a cute elderly couple Mr and Mrs Payne who I believe will be featured in a vanity fair article. There were about 40 press, about 25 staffers and about 10 volunteers.

Sometimes volunteering events are fun-this one which was in a nursing home-not so much. There was no room in the room so we waited out in a cramped and very hot hall and could watch through a small window with venetian blinds partially closed.

14. Well, you know, I've been doing this a long time.
You know, I've been writing about politics for a living for years now.

Hell, I've been writing for politicians for a living for years now.

And I have never, *ever* felt so glad to be involved in this strange, bizarre, often-twisted line of work than I am feeling this year.

Thank you, Barack Obama.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

GOBAMA!!!

15. I watched Dancing With The Stars one year
when Apollo Ohno won and Jimmy Kimmel had a segment in there where he would dance with this Middle Eastern guy(sorry don't remember his name) in a dress and it was hilarious.

That's what I know about Jimmy Kimmel.

I bet there'll be a Youtube for this show and it sounds funny for Father's Day:D
