The REAL REASON Central Park is off-limits to protesters
Mayor Bloomberg of New York says people can't assemble to protest this administraton in Central Park on August 29th because, "it will hurt the grass".

But, the real reason is really pretty silly... and insulting:

0n August 17th, the RNC Host committee officially announced...

HOST COMMITTEE FOR THE RNC AND THE NEW YORK POPS ANNOUNCE FREE CONCERT IN CENTRAL PARK (Skitch Henderson and the New York Pops Will be Joined by The Gatlin Brothers for a special performance)

http://www.nyc2004.org/News/Read.aspx?ID=21

This is scheduled for Sunday, August 29th.

I am David Ippolito (Go ahead - Google me) That Guitar Man from Central Park

I will also be performing in Central Park on Sunday, August 29th... (don't sweat it it. It's legal.) AND, I'M AN INDEPENDNENT WHO WANTS TO SEE GEORGE W. BUSH OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE.

I'm gonna be a very busy man that week.

4. What is the sound of 48,000 DU-ers chins hitting the floor?

Well, what you do say we all attend the concert on the 29th wearing Kerry/Edwards T-shirts? Or Bush/Cheney T-shirts with slogans like "Bush/Cheney '04: Because they haven't finished looting the treasury yet.") I'd also suggest carrying signs, but that would create "Down in front!" problems. Looks like we're going to have our Central Park rally after all!

:wow:

New York City 2004 Host Committee President Kevin Sheekey today announced that the New York Pops, led by Founder and Music Director Skitch Henderson, will give a free concert at Central Park’s Rumsey Playfield on Wednesday, September 1 at 7:00 PM. The orchestra will be joined by Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers for an exciting program of American music. The concert is free and open to the public. Rumsey Playfield, which is located near the center of Central Park at 69th Street and 5th Avenue, seats approximately 5,000.

8. DOH!!!
I'm gonna do what no one in this administration has ever done.

Admit a mistake.

Yes... in fact the RNC concert was moved to September 1.

(I should have read the recent release more closely. The original word was that it was on Sunday. I was careless and I apologize.)

I'm a songwriter... I'm new at this stuff.

DOH!!!

Well, either way...

I am still gonna be in CENTRAL PARK on Sunday, August 29th. Everyone is welcome. I will be there because it is where I belong.

And then, our own BIG "Concert for Change" is on Septemeber 1, on Central Park West... in the same neihgborhood (@ 76th Street) and at exactly the same time as rthe RNC concert.

I'm probably confusing everyone now, sorry. Just go to the website

6. Central Park is 3,000 Square Acres....
The park is always full of people day and night, even when special events like concerts are not being held. Mayor Bloomers makes it sound as if Central Park is just 3 acres of prime unused land. Give me a break!

7. Right and how does the grass know it is being stepped on
by protestors (who "hurt" it) vs. apathetics who apparently have minimal impact?!
