We went to our first Kerry meeting last night (Richmond Va.)
Things are really ramping up around here.

At least 150 (possibly 200) people met on the City's southside. Ages 2 to 82. Very nice crowd of all shapes sizes and colors.

Rep. Bobby Scott (Va.'s 3rd district) spoke as did Kerry's lead man in Va. and the hostess of the party.

Scott mentioned that the oft repeated "52% went for Bush in Va" is wrong it was "26 to 24 with half the people not showing up (not voting)". He mentioned that if we can work to register voters, get out the word, and get people to the polls AND Kerry can win here there is no way W can take this one.

My wife and I were very pleased with the people we saw and talked to and are totally psyched about getting started.

I volunteered for 3 events as well as calling, canvassing, office work-whatever it takes.

1. Our county (Prince William, VA) meeting is next week
I've already signed up for phone canvassing, I'll probably also take elderly people to the polls on election day.

:-)

3. Outstanding-I forgot to add
There was a State Rep. from Fairfax who has been out in the FAR western part of the state and said that he got a lot of positive feedback from folks out there. THAT is where Mark Warner won his election and where the Johns need to spend at least 2 days (on route 58). About 15% unemployment out there and that is the ONLY issue to them-JOBS.

He said that the "conventional wisdom" is the W isn't spending much time in Va. because he takes it for granted is wrong-Bush is afraid to come to Va. especially that part of Va.

2. Hey did you have to sign a loyalty pledge to get in?
Or is that just a Republican strategy (as I assume)?
