Anyone else find it curious there hasn't been a national poll released yet?
I'm not talking the often flawed daily tracking polls from Gallup and Rasmussen, which almost always are 5+ points off of national polls. Rather the CBS poll, the New York Times poll and the CNN poll, which all seemed to dominate the campaign 4 years ago. In fact, I remember there were a handful of GE polls out at this time and not just daily tracking ones. Yet here we are, now a week after Obama has locked up the nomination and nothing.

Why?

5. Well that's good. I wonder if they waited to not show a big Obama bump?

10. Well I am speculating but what I am guessing is that they wanted a truely baseline poll
That may have been a reason why they waited - let the intial reaction settle down.

These first polls will be used to base increases/declines for the entire GE season.

So they may be not only doing a large national poll but looking at key swing states.

They pre announced the poll yesterday and seemed to be indicating its a big deal with surprising results.

11. MSNBC just did a small preview - looks good for Obama.
This is the only thing they showed:

The Next President should focus on ...

Progress/Moving Forward 59%

Protecting what has made America Great 37%

What an odd question though.

3. To do a proper poll takes a bit of time.
Since it's been a week, expect the first polls to show up shortly.

4. There have been several polls
and I think the OP is right there seems to be this big stall. That, of course, favors McCain in that there will be a dampened Obama nomination bump. The last thing they want is for their groupthink world to turn around on them IF people find out it is okay to think that Obama could win.

7. Can't blame only white males.
Black Congress members and those black communities (religious leaders) are silent about the impeachment.

9. Actually, it could benefit Obama.

The poll would have been taken in the days after Clinton endorsed him, no?

In any case, waiting a bit longer serves to give party unity more time.
