He and Michelle promised their daughters that they would get a dog at the end. He joked during the primaries that they were hoping he didn't get the nomination so they'd get a dog sooner.

I'd love to have one too, but I have my hands (and my house!) full with a big old Great Pyrennes/Old English Sheepdog mix who's just about as big as I am! My neighbor has two Bernese Mountain Dogs, I love to walk by his house when he's out with his dogs.

When they were in the house, they used a litterbox or the doggie door. I have 2 pot belly pigs: Roseanne Boar (used to be Roseanne Boar Arnold) and Frankie SowNatra. Now they have a big pen outside with their own pigloos, pool and mud puddle.

want a puppy, but I think he should have at least one cat and one dog, both adopted from an animal rescue organization. I have an assortment of very happy rescued animals, both dogs and cats, living the good life (for a dog or a cat) in my home.

A cat is nowhere near as high-maintenance as a dog. All you need is to scoop the litterbox once a day, and kitty will go there. White House staff won't run the risk of stepping in dog mess unawares.
