Barnes and Noble and Swift Boat Liars for Bush
I went in a BN store in Minnesota. Immediately inside the store was an individual display devoted soley to the "*fit for command" book. It was not included with the "new fiction" or even the "new non-fiction", it had it's own display that was impossible to miss.

I went to a staff person and complained about the display. I was told they were doing it only because they were selling so many of the books. I told him, I wouldn't be shopping in that store and left.

I will be sending an email to the store management explaining that I left and spent 87.21 at a Borders Store, that they can look up my "frequent buyer" club and that perhaps the additional $ they made from that display will make up for the loss of revenue from sales to me.

1. I just received this info regarding the Swift Boat Liars
http://www.eriposte.com/media/liars_inc/swiftboat.htm

After a quick review it seems loaded with facts to refute Swift Boat Lies for *.

3. I was in B&N in Albany
last week. I don't recall even seeing the book but Clinton's book had a huge display that hit you as soon as you walked in. Made me smile and I spent way too much. Where are you?

4. Those displays are usually paid for
Barnes and Noble, like most chain bookstores, will put up a display for whoever is willing to pay.

The Republican Party is probably buying endcaps for the book behind the scenes.

If you follow the money on the entire Swift Boat Liars, it all goes back to Bush.

No one making up lies to attack Kerry is doing it for free.

5. How about going back and buying 2 copies of Brinkley's book?
You aren't gonna get anywhere boycotting a bestselling book in a bookstore.

So make Tour of Duty a bestseller too. It won't get big play cause it's been out for too long now, but it's still important to support the book, which will cause the stores to keep it well-stocked.

I have an autographed copy that I found in the airport in Albuquerque. (I did have two, but I left the first one on the plane accidentally--hope someone reads it!) So I bought one to read in the next airport, and then went back and got another autographed one when I got home. So I've paid for three now, lol!

It's a great book! I thought I was up on all this, but it's really a fascinating look at Kerry, not only his Vietnam experience, but how he grew up and what he did and thought then. It's almost TOO positive, I'll admit, and yet you can see how this was a guy who was not only smart and "ambitious" but also really cared about his country, about ethics, about THINKING.

Highly recommend it.

8. I work in a Barnes and Noble

We just sell the books. Actually freepers have been totally asses to my staff. Complaining about all the books bashing GeeW. They also blamed us for the fact that the publisher hadn't gotten copies out to most bookstores until the last couple of days. they've done a great job of alienating even the most politically apathetic of my staff.

So don't go around undoing the ill-will freepers have sown.

14. If you work in the one on Veterans Hwy I'd say both sides are fairly
represented. I must admit that I covered a Hannity book... just once! I might even do it again! Hee hee!

If you are the manager there, I'd like to say that your staff is very friendly and have always been helpful. Personally, I prefer the used book stores in the Quarter like Kaboom and Maple St. Book Store since it is a local business and in my neighborhood, but I do like going to your store.

10. BTW, if 1/10 of the DU'ers went out and bought Tour of Duty...
within a week, that would propel it to the top of the USA Today list, which is the only one that really relates much to actual sales. (Ignore the NYT.)

Unfit for Command debuted at 22 this week, which isn't all that hot, but by next week it may climb. So buy the Brinkley book NOW.

11. when "Worse than Watergate" first came out
I went looking for it at B&N and it had to be "special ordered" and I kind of grumbled about that. Than noticed a HUGE display of Karen Hughes and her new book by the front door. (Imagine a GIANT cardboard blowup of her face- ugh!!) Anyway, flash forward to now: The Hughes book is in the toilet and nowhere to be found, and Dean's book is all over the place, even Walmart.
