Obama won Texas. Again.
Edited on Mon Jun-09-08 12:22 PM by Bornaginhooligan
Way back in early march, I pointed out that Obama won the state of Texas, earning more delegates. A Clinton supporter called me dishonest, because Texas wouldn't "really" be decided until another vote in late March, and a state convention in early June and challenged me to report back when that happened.

Well, that was this weekend, and Obama won that one too.

2. I was there!
I was a proud Obama delegate! We delivered a net delegate gain of 6, I believe. What I enjoyed most was seeing how many black mothers brought their children there to witness it. What a moment to share with a child! :woohoo:

16. That's the way it's been done in Texas for years. This wasn't
something cooked up just for 2008. The media didn't pay much attention to it before now because presidential contests are usually very one-sided by the time Texas gets its turn to vote.

19. I don't know if all states have state level conventions, but many do.
It's a party-building exercise more than anything else. A lot of the business that goes on there can now be done electronically to be honest, but ain't nuttin like 15,000 fired up folks in blinking red and blue donkey pins to get people motivated to get out the vote! :woohoo: :kick:

7. Well, to be fair
Clinton won the Texas Primary.

More people voted for Clinton than Obama in Texas.

8. There you go again (as Reagan used to say)
There is no way you can know that "more people voted for Clinton" because you're discounting caucuses. People vote in those too, but of course you have been schooled numerous times on how that works. You're just not interested.

10. Part 1 of a three part process
Edited on Mon Jun-09-08 01:07 PM by SoCalDem
and of course there is no way to quantify how many of the part one-ers were Rush's folks. That was the first emergence of the "Operation Chaos" drive, and they were quite likely to have been energized to go first for Rush..so who really knows? But in any event, not enough people fron part 1 showed up for parts 2 & 3, which leads me to believe that Rush's folks were hurriedly pressed into action, and did not realize they had to do more..

No one will ever know for sure, but since delegates count and popular vote does not, the end result was the decisive one..

This ease of inteference, is why I'd love to see all closed primaries and NO registration switches within 120 days of ANY election..

There should be INDEPENDENT ballots provided with ALL candidate names..R's & D's..but it's for information purposes only and those votes would NOT be included in ANY vote total or go for any delegates.... That way "recent" converts could register their support, but not muck with the actual process of a party selecting their own candidates.

11. it takes more than one person voting for a candidate to win a singular caucus site.
You need to stop perpetrating the myth that Clinton won Texas and that Clinton won the popular vote, because she didn't. Its time to move on.

15. the process had nothing to do with being "fair"
and that is the root of many Hillary supporter's anger over this nomination.

18. I live in Texas & can confirm that it is an open primary. Republicans could vote as well.
Hillary did have support in Texas, but you have to wonder how much of the primary vote was Republican shenanigans when the caucuses were so strong for Obama.

20. to be fair, there's only one Texas, and Obama won it
Edited on Mon Jun-09-08 02:41 PM by TexasObserver
It's a bifurcated process, with one part of delegate selection based upon the vote in each Senatorial district, and one part based upon the caucuses. Like Hillary, you seem unable to understand that caucuses and primaries are both merely vehicles to gain delegates, or to understand that Operation Chaos voters in the primary don't translate to delegates.

The media better get it right. Obama won more Texas delegates - period.

I was there for all three stages of the process!
