Are you Registered to vote?
Edited on Sun Jun-08-08 09:56 PM by Heather MC
I was at six flags today. and I found myself asking that question to everyone who was of voting age, particularly the younger Adults.

Do me a favor, do Obama favor, do this country a favor, ask someone that question at least once a day, and if they say no, just explain to them how they can get registered. It's a way we can all do our part to help.

And if you are so incline go down to the DMV see if they will give you 10 Registration packets. and set a small goal to give out all ten of them in a week. and then go get ten more.

Obama can't do this alone, let's work on reaching the people he can't but we can.

So I have one question

Are you Registered to vote?

1. That's a great idea about getting packets from the DMV --
And yes, I'm registered. And I vote! :patriot:

4. Thanks
It's very easy and painless way to get involved. I may never be able to do a voter registration drive on the weekends. But I can make a plan to ask one person that question everyday.

We could take this thing to whole new level, if the 140,000 people on DU, get this simply word out
imagine what a powerful force we can become for the Party if we make a plan to ask one new person a day that question.

Imagine making a list of the people you know, and calling them and asking them if they are registered. If they are not for Obama it's ok but don't push them that hard! LOL

2. That's a good idea
During the 2004 election, which was my first one, I told everyone in my family how important it was that they register to vote and they did and some hadn't voted in years.

7. That's an even better Idea!
Make a list of family and friends
call them and ask them if they are.
Then encourage them to so the same thing.

This is a simple princple and it's exactly how AMWAY GOT SO HUGE
impagine what would happen if we all applied the princple to creating new voters. And we would not be asking them to buy some shampoo or something
Registering is free!

3. No vetting?
What if you're registering Republican leaning people?
Just giving you a hard time...I agree, voter registration is very very important. Do you wear an Obama pin when you give them the packet?

I have a question for someone who may know the rules:
I work for a County Welfare to Work agency. It is against the law or unethical to give my clients registration packets if I don't mention any particular party or candidate when I do so?

5. Too funny, if they are Non-voting Repugs, congratulate them for their service to the DEM party
Edited on Sun Jun-08-08 10:11 PM by Heather MC
and pursue it no further
I don't know the rules
I do know I am just a citizen, asking a another citizen if they are registered.
and if they say no but would like to be. I would just hand them a packet. I wouldn't take the packet, b/c it has personal info. Unless they ask me to. The VA form is really easy it's only a half page and you don't have to declare with party.
you have to use your SSN# and make sure you sign it, other wise they toss it out.

9. Some states have rules
You have to be a deputy registrar. However, in Texas, you can disseminate application forms, but I think our rule is that you can't take the app from the individual--only a deputy registrar can do that. The individual can mail it. Check on your Secretary of State website to see if there are rules.

10. I really would want to take them, since it would not be directly for the campaign
But just encourage people to drop them in the mail.
It's can be against the law to ask the question. One citzen to another have a converstation, with with a cashier in at a store, or the mail man, or the ups guy.

Just ask the question, and tell them where to go get registered, if actually resgistering people is against the law until you get deputized.
Just make a plan to plant the seed every day in somesones brain
and watch home many trees we have by NOV!

6. I'm deputized to register people to vote in Wisconsin
It takes about 20 minutes to go through the training. After that, all you need is a clipboard with the appropriate forms and have people fill out their info. You then either mail the forms in or take them down to City Hall.

I've registered about a dozen people so far since April.

11. Awesome!
Good for you...that's impressive. I registered a few people in Northern Virginia a few weeks ago and plan to get out there and do it again ASAP.

Doesn't Wisconsin have same-day registration though? Are there advantages to pre-registering?

12. We do have same-day registration, but
Edited on Sun Jun-08-08 11:47 PM by dragonlady
it would save a lot of time on election day if you are already registered. I observed at a polling place in Milwaukee on Election Day 2004 and it was very busy. That day the heavily African American ward was helping to elect the first African American member of Congress from Wisconsin. You can imagine how it will be with Obama on the ballot.

Edited to add: Getting registered ahead of time gives you the opportunity to work out any problems that might arise, like not having the proper paperwork on hand. If that happens on election day, you could be running around trying to find it, or completely out of luck.

16. I know
I registered in VA right before the deadline to vote in the primary...I was going to keep my New Jersey registration until after the primary because I thought it would all be over by Super Tuesday. I'm glad I switched.

are registered (most are 17 turning 18 by November).
