10. The center-left pundits adore Colin Powell.
Edited on Sun Jun-08-08 09:22 PM by Eric J in MN
The NY Times editorial board wrote about how wonderful his UN speech was after it happened.

In the Washington Post, columnist Richard Cohen wrote that "Only a fool — or possibly a Frenchman" could doubt that Iraq has WMD after hearing that UN speech.

A Colin Powell endorsement could help us with the center-left pundits.

26. I totally agree. Have you read the Slate article?
http://www.slate.com/id/2095756/

It's hard to come up with another explanation for his jaw-dropping behavior last week before the House International Relations Committee. There he sat, recounting for the umpety-umpth time why, back in February 2003, he believed the pessimistic estimates about Iraqi weapons of mass destruction. "I went and lived at the CIA for about four days," he began, "to make sure that nothing was—" Suddenly, he stopped and glared at a Democratic committee staffer who was smirking and shaking his head. "Are you shaking your head for something, young man back there?" Powell grumbled. "Are you part of the proceedings?"

Rep. Sherrod Brown, an Ohio Democrat, objected, "Mr. Chairman, I've never heard a witness reprimand a staff person in the middle of a question."

He is one of the few people that could have prevented or at least delayed the rush to war with Iraq. We should not be relying on anything from him.

18. "Obama Seeks Powell’s Advice on Policy Issues"
From
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/11/us/politics/11powell.html

=============
Mr. Powell served in the administrations of two Republican presidents, but he said Sunday that it was too early in the 2008 race to say whether he would back the Republican nominee.

Mr. Powell said he did not want to serve in elected office but was less certain about a return to some government post.

“I would not rule it out,” he said. “I am not at all interested in political life, if you mean elected political life. That is unchanged. But I always keep my eyes open and my ears open to requests for service.”

Mr. Powell also said he believed the United States’ military prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, had become “a major problem” in the way America was perceived around the world. “If it was up to me, I would close Guantánamo — not tomorrow but this afternoon,” Mr. Powell said.
