Edwards rules out VP slot on Obama ticket
‘I won't do it again,’ former senator tells Spanish newspapers

NBC News
updated 4:17 a.m. PT, Fri., June. 6, 2008

MADRID, Spain - Former U.S. Sen. John Edwards has ruled out being Barack Obama's running mate on the Democratic presidential ticket, according to interviews carried by two leading Spanish newspapers on Friday.

"I already had the privilege of running for vice president in 2004, and I won't do it again," Edwards was quoted by El Mundo as saying. El Pais, the country's other leading daily, carried similar comments.

I'm a bit saddened by this although it comes as no surprise. Edwards in 2016 has a nice ring to it and being VP might be a positive. I apologize if this is old new...I searched for other DU threads but didn't see this story.

1. The Meme is "Change".
That's why Edwards & Clinton won't be VP in a nutshell.

4. Bash, bash, bash.
What is youropinion?

And do you have a reason for it?

Seriously, meaning no disrespect to your mom, who on here gives a f**k what your mom thinks?

I'd rather hear what your mom thinks from your mom - she'd probably say something interesting or informative.

It's the mark of sloppy thinking that you have to chirp in with your mom's opinion rather than say what you think .

Quit hiding behind your mom. Give some reasoning. Make a case.

Posts like yours are a waste of time at best.

And besides - Edwards ran a lousy campaign.

Hmmmm. If I recall correctly someone else was in charge in '04.

But don't let that get in the way of bashing somebody.

8. But - why Richardson?
I'm curious.

I've heard some good things about him - why do you think he'd make a good pick?

11. Not likely. The trouble is....
Edited on Tue Jun-10-08 06:32 AM by mrbluto
...that I think there were a lot of people in the tentatively McCain camp who would have had no problem crossing lines to vote Edwards - and, amazingly enough, for the right reasons. He wants fairness, an economy that rewards people who actually work, safeguards so regular Americans aren't hung out to dry in the world economy, corps held to the law, accountability, etc. And they know, on some level, that's what's needed. They've just been convinced that progressive policies are at odds with economic health.

Edwards has a populist tone without slipping into jingoism and doesn't set off a rank-and-file Republican voter's radar(i.e. he's a white male), yet there's no doubt (at least on my part) that he's for the essential Democratic objectives.

While the typical Republican voter isn't liable to win any awards for progressive thinking they are not so far away from rank-and-file Democrats. They've been duped. Read Thomas Frank's "What's the matter with Kansas" regarding how Rove & Luntz & Company have bamboozled them if you'd like to learn more about that bit of media jujitsu.

I hope Obama finds a good place for him in government, if not in the presumptive Obama administration.

(Why to I say "presumptive"? Not out of disrespect, or a lack of optimism, but because I don't want to count chickens before they are hatched.)
