What's Your Best Strategy To Beat McCain?
My strategy would be to help fund and promote Bob Barr to disenfranchised republicans.

3. Exactly
If everyone who voted for any Democrat in the primaries votes for Obama in November, along with all of the other people who would normally vote Democratic, McCain won't stand a chance. It's pretty much just that simple. The only way the Democrats lose is if too many Clinton/Edwards/Kucinich etc. supporters decide to stay home or vote "their conscience".

9. if they honestly vote "their conscience"
it will be a landslide

any sentient being with an IQ greater than single digits HAS to understand that McCain is a puppet of Bill Kristol & company. Whatever there once was in that now-hollow shell of a human being that might have been a "maverick" or "moderate" or whatever is long gone.

Voting for the cabal is not in any American's self-interest, except the few hundred oligarchs seeking a permanent fascist country.

25. Unfortunately
there are probably some Democrats out there who still can't bring themselves to support any candidate but their favorite, or any candidate that isn't progressive enough. Their "conscience" is the excuse they'll plead, apparently leaving out of those calculations just what the consequences of allowing another Republican to be elected will be for this country (not to mention the world).

During the primaries, I've seen many, many people on DU clearly and unequivocally state that they will NEVER support the Democratic nominee in November if it is not their favorite, no matter what the result of their staying home or voting Independent might be. I can only hope, now that the dust is starting to settle, that they will come to their senses and recall the lessons of 2000.

voting "for" Obama does not have to mean you like him, want him for pres, don't hate his supporter who was rude to you. Just think of it as sticking a pin in a gwb voodoo doll.

22. this Kucinich supporter will vote the Democratic ticket come November
as pledged after Kooch dropped out. Knowing how much Dennis is different from Obama on policy matters, while Clinton is so close, it still amazes me that some of her supporters are threatening to vote GOP or stay home.

26. It's pretty sad to think
that some of them will be doing that because some Obama supporter honked them off way back in March, and they've still got their knickers in a twist about it. They need to be reminded that this election is not about them and their hurt feelings. Only the most arrogant and self-centered voter would claim that how a few supporters of a candidate treated them is a rational basis for a vote in any election, let alone one as potentially pivotal as this one.

29. Yes, it baffles me
I remember back when Kucinich was in the race, and soon after he left--there were posters here calling him names (like the Keebler elf) and making rude comments. I looked at the comments, realized that the ONLY person it reflected on was them, and went on. Right now I couldn't even tell you which candidate they were supporting--and did it matter? No. Their comments were their comments.

7. I actually watched McCain
on tv for about 5 minutes last week and can't believe anyone would vote for him. I knew I would never vote for him, but I didn't realize how painful just seeing him on tv for just a few minutes would be. I think if everyone watched about 5 minutes of McCain that would be enough for an Obama landslide victory.

8. Raise questions about his grasp of the issues.
This will raise a general question about his ability to grasp the complexities of of the job for which he is running and his potential to cope with them.

McCain seems challenged by even simple stuff. Obama's biggest strength is his intelligence.

I'd keep going back to that. Be careful not to relate it to age ( voters are free to bring with them whatever prejudices they may have re.age into the booth... and they will.).

It should be "smart vs. not-smart".

On my list of things I'll never understand.

Blatantly obvious then. Still has some resonance; but McCain will be edging further and further away from Bush so the comparison will likely be less effective now than it could have been.

42. They did.
Kerry and Edwards gave awesome tandem speeches that spent a great deal of time talking about the economy and how "help is on the way." People listened and cheered by the thousands. I still have videos of those speeches kicking around somewhere, but unfortunately I don't see any online at a quick glance.

You're right, though. The economy is a huge issue that resonates even more now than it did four years ago.

20. Make sure all the votes are counted
The Obama campaign should have daily dispatches from all the election fraud that's being perpetrated by the GOP RIGHT NOW. Make it a point to say that once Obama is in office, the vote cagers and voter roll purgers and polling place challengers will be prosecuted and sent to federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison.

If this election is fair, McCain will be lucky to finish within 10 % points of Obama in the PV

21. I'm hyping Barr to folks who I know won't vote Obama
because of his color.

Then, for the rest--anyone with kids or grandkids of fighting age, I ask--how exactly is McCain going to be able to stay in Iraq 100 years AND bomb Iran without additional troops? Doesn't that mean two things--domestic programs we need will be slashed to pay for the insatiable war machine, and the draft will be re-instituted? One of my co-workers hopes his son will be the first in the family to go to college. I plan to tell him FAT CHANCE. There will be no Federal help for college--but the kid will be excellent cannon fodder. I'll be blunt with him because with some folks that is the only way to get through. I'd do it differently with other folks, depending on the circumstances.

I'd also stress McCain's temper--do we want a President that will act rashly first and then think later? That should give a lot of folks pause.

Finally, I'd use the youtube videos out there that use McCain's own words to show how much of a flip-flopper he is.

27. One thing I have in mind
Is to point the information in the following paragraphs written by Marcia Mercer.

"At Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va., he said, "I made my
resentment clear in my usual immature ways to upperclassmen
and school officials, piling up demerits and earning the distinction
at the end of the year of 'worst rat.'"

And, said the man who famously has screamed obscenities at
Senate colleagues, "If my detractors had known me here ... they
might marvel at the self-restraint and mellowness I developed as
an adult." Or not.

At the Naval Academy, where he finished fifth from the bottom of
his class, he said he accumulated so many demerits and pulled so
much marching duty that he could have marched from Annapolis
to Baltimore and back 17 times. That might be a record, he said."

39. Remind people that he's now the face of the ideologically bankrupt Republican Party.
McCain needs to be cut down to size, but I think he's got the advantage of years of branding as being the "maverick", the independent, the middle of the road Republican. This to anyone in the know is absurd, but it is not particularly clear to the general electorate. We're running against McCain, but we're also running against the Republican party, a movement that is corrupt, with no ideas or direction, other than cutting taxes for the rich, enabling corporations, and selling American citizens down the river.
