Can Bill Clinton recover his pre-Decision 2008 Campaign popularity?
Edited on Sat Jun-07-08 08:46 PM by NNguyenMD
Hard to deny the immense popularity and respect he held nationally and worldwide before this campaign cycle? Will Clinton recover the respect and regard he had before?

can only be a hindrance in the future. He's burned too many bridges.

Body language says a lot and although I think there's a great deal mutual respect and admiration, I don't think there's deep love there anymore. I think they would be the kind of exes that would be friends for the rest of their lives - and may even be better as friends than spouses these days. I may be wrong and I certainly don't hope for the end of any marriage, but if that's what would make them both happy, go for it!

It might take some time, but if he works his heart out for Barack Obama (as I expect he will), all will be forgiven.

11. With a change in behavior and a lot of humility, maybe
He has pissed off a lot of people over the past 8 years. The rubbing elbows with daddy bush, the support for the Iraq war during the runup to the 2004 election (and the lukewarm support for Kerry during the campaign), the strange tales of international financial hanky panky, and the bizarre behavior during the primaries are all images that will stay with a lot of folks for a long time. He has a lot to live down, and I'm not optimistic that he understands that.

If he thinks he can get up on the dais and fling the old Clinton bullshit out and win over all those who have become disillusioned, he will just dig himself in deeper. He has to make a genuine effort . I'm afraid he is just too narcissistic to make it.

But if he makes the effort I'm willing to give him credit.

12. Not everyone fell for "the Clintons are racists" line that was being sold.
It was good that Obama apologized for his camp pushing that line. Too bad many of his supporters didn't support him on that, though.

If he goes full force into his global intiative and continues with it and creates real change outside our borders in Africa he will regain who he was with me.

16. Of course. This is the country which not only accepted "the New Nixon",
it elected him to the presidency twice.

A pretty new package and a slogan, and Americans will go for it every time.

21. He, and Hillary, have both withstood intense efforts to demonize them, and have come out stronger
because of it.

He left his presidency immensely popular, despite all the repukes, and some Dems, could throw at him. His esteem around the world grew on his efforts afterward. He is still an historically popular former president, and has the respect and admiration of millions worldwide.

Can he win such with some here? Probably not, but they didn't really like him to begin with.

Yeah, his stature among Americans will survive and prosper, as will that of Hillary Clinton.
