Now that this is all over...
Can we at least agree that saying that Chelsea Clinton is being "pimped out" was a little over the top? I remember being accused of "faux outrage" over that by some over zealous Obama supporters.

1. Jesus. Don't you ever give up?
It's "happy time" here, Lirwin. If saying that the "pimping Chelsea" comments were over the top will make you happy, I'll say it. They were.

BOTH camps made "over the top" posts...especially specific members of both camps...

Let's just let this go. We have a nominee. We have an opponent. It's time to fight the real enemy.

3. Apology accepted
In the next campaign I hope you can see beyond your candidate and call out any injustice you see.

2. We can say that some of Hillary's supporters are asking McCain to be their pimp.
From McCain's blog:

Hope and change for America! Oh, somebody else has already reused and plagerized that line.. anyway, it's sounds great. Also, as a disaffected and disenchanted exDem for HRC, it's nice to hear a candidate's campaign treating us respectfully and wanting our votes and help. Here we come and we'll do our best with intelligent reasons and enthusiasm for voting for an experienced, moderate, John McCain.

Hi there! Well, you've got yourself another Hillary supporter switching over to John McCain. I'm not ready to call myself a Republican yet, but I did leave the Democrat party and after educating myself about John McCain I think I could vote for him. Of course my first choice is Hillary Clinton but if that's not going to happen then I will be voting for John McCain. I was told we were being welcomed here so I hope that's true and I look forward to learning more about John McCain.

Sheila7, welcome!! Don't worry you don't have to call yourself a republican to vote for McCain......I am not the biggest fan of Leiberman but he said something a few days ago that was very profound....americans need to start voting for their country and not the party!!! We welcome, liberals, conservatives, independants...anyone who supports McCain!! If you have any questions just let us know!

Thanks. I've gotta go for now but I will be back and I will probably be bringing some more of the girls with me. I will let them know that most of you seem very nice here and we are being welcomed.

4. Lirwin2, I respectfully submit ...
... that there were "over the top" remarks made on both sides. It's done, it's the past, it's over.

There is nothing to be gained from dredging these things up. For every "but what about this?" incident you can name, there will be a "but what about that?" response.

Today is a day for celebrating our unity, not one for picking at old wounds.

5. If some O supporters truly see no wrong in implying that Chelsea Clinton is a prostitute
Edited on Sat Jun-07-08 05:23 PM by Lirwin2
Then no amount of kumbya or unity pledges will ever be enough to restore my faith in this place.

12. Step #1 of DU unity...
Stop calling us O supporters, Obamaniacs, Obamatrons and call us Obama supporters. That is a first start. I think you can figure out step #2. You can take that step slowly...

18. It was over the top, and most DUers didn't stoop to that level.
There were 'over-the-top' remarks made about Obama and his supporters, too, by 'overzealous' Clinton supporters.

I don't think bringing those up will accomplish anything positive, though.

19. Who said this?
Last I heard, it wasn't anyone from the Obama campaign.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/02/08/msnbc-reporter-begrudging_n_85706.html

Personally, I never commented on this issue one way or another. Most likely because Chelsea was a grown woman with a microphone, and it appears that her parents did well getting the person responsible punished.

So why is this even an issue on these boards 5 months later?

Because if there is going to be grudges held based on this, I have a long list of what reporters said about Obama and his wife that I was outraged about. Should I be holding out for apologies from those Hillary supporters who basked in the glory of some of the statements as well?

23. Who cares?
Seriously, this is over. Going back and playing referee on who said what over the last 17 months and whether it was appropriate is counterproductive, and will only get the whole thing started up again.

Frankly, alot worse is going to be said about alot of people between now and November

Besides, I'm sure Chelsea is long over it. SHE might well be the first female President - talk about baptism by fire. She's been putting up with all of this since her early teens - going to be hard as nails by the time she's old enough to run.

Anyway, enough about that - time to get over it.
