I'd like to take this opportunity, this special day, to once again recognize the good Dr. Dean.
Chairman Dean. Governor Dean.

Howard Dean, by keeping the anti-Iraq-war message alive, by demonstrating that with stalwart integrity the Republicans can be beaten, and by his understanding the big picture, the ebb and flow of the political power cycle, enough to reinvest in our party's infrastructure in the southern states, created the political culture of today.

That political culture will lead to the election of our first black President and, more than that, the sociopolitical rebirth of our nation.

Thank you so much, Howard Dean. Your leadership has meant more to this country, this planet, than anyone will ever know.

1. Those who succeed do so by standing on the shoulders of those who tried and failed.
Dean may have lost in 2004, but his contributions to our party have fundamentally changed the way we do politics.

What a great legacy.

2. I second that!
Howard Dean is a great man. He survived his own electronic media lynching and lives to have the last laugh

He was the first to really put power in the hands of the little guy through Internet fundraising and to provide a real alternative to corporatist, lobbyist beholden candidates. I salute him.

for shaking off the pain and getting back in the game, for working your heart out for us every day. For your mental clarity, your true blue American heart, and your brilliant gift of obliterating GOP b.s. with few words and deep conviction.

You are just what this country needs in the DNC. With Barack in the oval office and Dr. Dean at the DNC, we are going to bring this country back for the people who built it, just as you said we would.

40. The sad part is that it never should have HAD to be a huge task but for the stewardship of McAuliffe
and other Clinton loyalists since 1993 who fashoined the DNC to work only for their needs as they collapsed the infrastructures in states they decided were of no use to those needs.

By 1997 crucual states like Florida and Ohio were well on their way to being completely controlled by the RNC and GOP oficials in those states and many more.

Some of us believe the collapse was deliberate to protect a Bush presidency to keep 2008 clear for HRC.

44. And because of what the media did, I owe him an apology
Yes, I was one of those people who were led around by the nose by the media after Dean's Scream...played morning, noon, and night day after day until many of us were brainwashed into thinking he was a total loose cannon...a screwball....a nutcase.

I've since come to realize how very easy it is for people to be influenced by the media into holding certain opinions. I used to trust the media...now I spit on most of it in disgust.

Anyway, maybe in some respects what happened...or, more accurately, what didn't happen in 2004...could have been a blessing in disguise. Because Howard Dean has probably been a more powerful voice for the Democratic party than he might have been had he been nominated over John Kerry, and subsequently elected president....something I doubt very much, as I sincerely believe that even Jesus himself might not have had much chance against Republican voting corruption, but whatever...

So.

Howard Dean, I apologize for thinking ill of you back then.

May you continue in your tireless work for the Democratic party.

38. i have shamelessly hijacked your pic-i love it
this reminds me of the story of joseph and his brothers. they sold him into slavery out of jealousy. he later became the right hand man of the king of egypt. he was able to save many, many people including those same brothers-that did him wrong.
dr dean took the evil done to him and turned it into a blessing for the whole party and eventually the whole country (dare i say the world). he can't get enough praise or enough donations in my book. on payday both of those guys in the pic get a couple of bucks from check.
no offense my non christian friends, that is my frame of reference.

42. I'm thinking that the way he took Lieberman over and
told him what-for for five minutes on the floor, shows that he will confront people directly. That's the good kind of "fighting" - calm, polite but very firm, direct confrontation and discussion to set the record straight. Whatever he said, or whatever tone he was using, he had Lieberman squirming against the wall!

33. Dean is UNDERAPPRECIATED
He has done a phenomenal job with the party over the past 4 years building some serious data tools and operations capabilities that DID NOT exist before.

His leadership broke this long ass RNC stranglehold with the 2006 congressional victories...

He navigated the minefields of Florida and Michigan and got us to a damn nominee before the convention...

He was the trailblazer for grassroots / small internet donations that allows the Obama campaign to avoid PAC money and still raise serious cash. (For some reason the media gives credit to Obama's campaign for this methodology they intelligently borrowed form the Dean campaign.)

My understanding is that Obama is smart enough to value him and will ensure he stays in his role to the benefit of all of us

for putting the brakes on the slide to fascism. You spoke out when no one else had the nuts to speak truth to power. A concerted effort by DLC tools gave us four more years of the Bush cartel. Howard Dean would have cleaned Bush's clock if he were the nominee in 04.
He took the reins of the DNC and marginalized the DLC. No longer are we primarily dependent on corporate cash from the DLC.
The good doctor provided the leadership to remedy what was ailing our party. The corporate ass kissers in the DLC have been neutered to some extent.
We want our country back, and we're getting it back one voter, one precinct, one district and one state at a time.
Given the choice between republican lite (AKA DLC) and real Republicans, the voters go for the real thing. Howard Dean's vision and leadership has brought Democratic values and principles back to the Democratic Party. When given a real choice in the battle of ideas, the voters like what is represented in Democratic Party values.
