Hillary will do an Al Gore and emerge from disappointment stronger, truer, greater as a result
Edited on Sat Jun-07-08 12:48 PM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
I loved her speech. It seemed more personal than political and I sensed no ulterior or hidden agenda. It was graceful, passionate, persuasive and positive. When Hillary talked previously about finding her voice, I really think she wasn't even close until today. This was her voice - positive passion for specific goals. It's too bad that she let the negativism of her advisors infect her campaign.

I don't mean that in a critical way, I mean it in a learning way. Hillary's experts were no experts. Next time she will rely on her own instincts and have the same sense of sureness of self that you see with Gore.

Most of the truly great leaders through history HAD to weather some personal disappointment or setback. It serves to make them greater. I think that Hillary Clinton will emerge as one of the great Democratic leaders of our time.

Thank you Hillary for your wonderful speech and for bringing us together.

2. I think the another thing that hurt Hillary was time She understood too late she had idiots working

for her and they had a lot of opportunity slip away fighting with each other and not serving her well. The shake ups came to late to recover.

9. The lesson I hope she takes away from this is that the era of Karl Rove politics is over.

10. I think the Karl Rove era is over for even Karl Rove.
One thing I will look forward to in this election is that I think McCain has the same commitment towards making the discussion focus on issues as opposed to personalities as Obama does.

I know McCain has some skeletons, and both Obama and Hillary probably do too. The media is focused on tabloidism and dirt hunting and constantly robs us of the opportunity to have thoughtful discussions about policy issues that affect all of us.

16. McCain still wants to win. He turned over whatever he values to that end. If he values!
Hillary was a willing participant and leader in the kitchen sink. I don't know what she has learned, because the media says she's a better campaigner. Although she won states she was supposed to win.

Those behaviors have been in evidence decades. I hope for the best, and she does what's best.

14. I think someone else could be a lot more effective and that someone might just be Hillary.
I think she has the national stature and mandate at this point to seriously be considered for Majority Leader. But, in real life, I have absolutely no idea what kind of support she would have for a run at this position.

Harry Reid just does not seems to have the passion, the energy, the organizational smarts, or the eloquence that this position requires. Maybe he is a huge power behind the curtain and we just don't know it, but you would think that it would have leaked out.

17. I agree.
I think she WILL become one of the great Democratic leaders, be it in Congress, or in another capacity.

What I saw in her in her speech today was a strong woman, one who reiterated the things that are important to her, and yes, a woman who seems to be become stronger because of, not in spite of, her defeat.

This is not the end of Hilary Clinton; it is most likely the beginning of the next phase of her life.

One that I think she can do tremendous things with.

18. I hope you're right. I think if she gives herself time to regroup like he did and
then gets back in the game with her pet issue - whether it be women's rights, children's needs or universal healthcare...she
will be a force to be reckoned with!

I remember being so impressed when Al came back on the scene. He was calm, relaxed and eloquent on his opposition to the war, his
crusade for the environment, everything he did seemed so much more natural to him. I hope she finds that place for herself. :-)

19. I was reminded of Gore's 2000 concession speech.
Which I thought was one of his best of the campaign, although it pained me so much to hear it.

You may be right.

I hope she does some good work in the Senate.

20. To be fair, Al Gore's political career was done
Edited on Sat Jun-07-08 08:57 PM by crankychatter
When he first started speaking out against the Neocon Junta, I thought...

"Where was this guy in 2000?"

edited to add: he had nothing to lose by being frank... HRC still has a Senate role, and doubtless political aspirations...

22. And he made exactly the same mistakes Hillary did-
relied too much on paid media "experts". Whose august advice made him seem:

Measured. Calibrated. Calculated. = Phony

To the media, who did everything they possibly could to push the false "liar" "phony" angle while they backed the biggest farce of the century - George W. Bush.

Al Gore experienced freedom, exhilaration, exuberance and achievement once he was liberated to be the man he is for himself.

But, Al was done, politically. Hillary still has her Senate seat

Hopefully she can do something great enough to warrant it in the future. She takes her Woman Rights issues globally from the Senate she can do it.
