Edited on Sat Jun-07-08 12:41 PM by democrattotheend
I didn't want to watch but my mom talked me into it. I knew that I would feel sad, and a little guilty, and I do. Does anyone else think she looked like she had been crying? When I saw her come on stage it looked like she had been crying. I knew she would tug at my heartstrings a little...I'm just glad she didn't get choked up, because I think I would have if she did.

I know it must not have been easy for her to say what she said about Obama and I give her credit for it. I do feel bad for her, and for all of the women who look up to her (and I used to be one of them) and feel like their dreams are coming to an end. I believe we will have a woman president in my lifetime, but I am sad that we may not see one in my great aunt's lifetime. I am proud that we are making history by nominating an African American for president, and I am more excited about Obama than I have ever been about a candidate. But I do feel bad for Hillary Clinton and her supporters, and even though I am an Obama supporter I feel like I might cry.

I can just imagine how hard this is for her supporters...if I had been a Clinton supporter I don't think I could have even watched. Four years ago I couldn't watch Dean's concession speech...I just didn't have the heart. For those of you who are still here at DU I want to express my condolences, and say that I understand what you're going through.

1. she is a very strong person.........That was a very hard speech to give....
and she was fantastic. She has really grown to be a fabulous speaker during this campaign. While she was First Lady, I just thought that she was an O.K. speaker, but she has risen to the occasion during this campaign.

2. Yes her face did look puffy and swollen. I do extend the branch of peace now
that she conceded.

I don't think the words we have to say will pacify her supporters. Instead, I think it is better to just hang back now.

I can't agree with alot of their sentiments, but I can read them respectfully without comment and hopefully without correction.

3. Maybe, maybe not. And I wouldn't blame her if she did.

I never did fault her for crying, when it was genuine.

Nor was there anything wrong with her laugh, when it was genuine.

It just wasn't always genuine. As an actor, I could read her tells when she was acting.

OnEdit: And today, she was being more genuine than I've seen her in months. Reminds me of the person I once supported and defended, ten years ago.

A great speech.

4. I'm an Obama supporter and I went through several tissues watching
I was proud of her, as a woman, and as the mother of a young daughter. Hillary was gracious, inspirational and uplifting in her speech as she threw her support to Obama.

I was very impressed and no, imo, she didn't look as if she'd been crying at all.

She seems at peace to me and she can certainly be proud of what she accomplished.

11. I agree entirely with what you posted, and yes, I did need one tissue...
As a woman, I know voting for Obama is in the best interest for myself and my country, but yet, I do realize how far Hillary came, what she did today was give Obama a gift she did not have to give. How many times does the loser not ever recognize the winner, and she's willing to go all out for him by the looks of it. Her delivering the speech, knocking it out of the park, doing everything she could at this point I do appreciate, and I do realize the significance.

I believe we will have a woman president in my lifetime, I'm sure of it. Like we never had Obama on the radar 8 years ago, we have no reason to believe there won't be a woman currently not on our radar for 2016.....

I am optimistic and I am appreciative....

5. I didn't think she looked like she'd been crying.
but I thought Dorothy Rodham did. I think I felt worse for her than for Hillary today. It had to be a great disappointment for Mrs. Rodham, and she doesn't have the open-ended future Hillary, Bill and Chelsea have.

17. I didn't watch the whole thing...
I couldn't bear to. I am, and have been, an Obama supporter, and Hillary's exit could not have come soon enough for me, but still.... I can't imagine how difficult and excruciating this speech must have been for her. I didn't really notice what you said about tears, but it did seem to me that there were parts where she was saying the words from sheer force of will. Very painful. It's a hard thing to watch your dream dying, even harder to have to drive the spike into its heart with your own hand.

:grouphug: for Hillary and all her supporters.

18. I Don't Think She Was Crying and I Think You Have Nothing to Feel Guilty For
That is, unless you were one of the Obama supporters who made personal attacks on Clinton supporters on DU and took every bit of false or slanted information you could, no matter how shakey, and used it for extreme propaganda against other candidates and/or called Clinton supporters racists, thinking it would benefit the Obama campaign. In which case, feel free to drive off a cliff, metaphorically speaking.

25. I feel guilty because I am a woman
And even though it makes me mad when she plays the gender card, at the same time, she sometimes tugs at my heartstrings and makes me feel guilty that the first viable woman candidate for president wasn't my first choice. She was one of my idols growing up, and if you told me then that I'd be supporting someone else when she ran for president I would not have believed you. My decision to support Obama was because I was impressed with Obama, not a rejection of Hillary per say.

20. We all have to face realities sometime
A few years ago, I realized I will never be an NBA All-star. Now I realize I probably will never even have the thrill of dunking a basketball.

It is getting late for me to become a Medical Doctor.

I didn't cry when I made those realizations. But then again, I haven't been living my whole life with nothing but those ambitions.

I suppose she was crying. That's a good thing. That probably indicates she really means it this time.

Now let's all move on.

23. I certainly can relate to the feelings that all Hillary supporters have... I lived thru 2000 & 04..
Gore having his presidency actually stolen and Kerry also losing under suspicious circumstances. It hurts. There will be some that are republicans that crossed over to vote for a woman and not for what she actually stood for... we aren't losing anything there.

The vast majority will come to their senses and vote for Obama and we will win in November. As for her becoming the next V.P. I hope not. We need her to change the healthcare system.

Hillary would be a great leader to champion the biggest and most difficult change in U.S. history and that being the U.S. Healthcare system and big Pharma. We need HER to do this.

24. I thought so
I really felt for her. It had to have been so difficult.
I was glad that she finally talked about the suffragists. I kept wishing throughout her campaign that she would credit feminist trail blazers.
I so was glad to hear her finally express with more enthusiasm and sincerity gratitude that someone else came before her and that the other people who were integral to her campaign were there.
I was tearful at the mention of the man who broke his habit of not voting and stood in for his wife to vote for her after she had died.
I knew that she had supporters that she had been feeling loyal to. She was in a terrible position at the end.
As an Obama supporter I was wishing it would end for my own personal sanity, but I was not the one who was enduring the public humiliation that is an election loss.
Although, I am walking away however with my Pete Rose\Joe Dimaggio feeling as I wish many things had happened differently.
I am very glad that she gave that speech.

26. What a nice post
I think I would have felt sad for either, even if not a supporter. I also remember Dean's concession speech in 2004, and I am glad that I never found a candidate this year. Simply knowing that you'll vote for the D is so much easier.

I think Clinton will bounce back, and possibly run for Gov. If she's not the VP by then.

28. I don't know about her, but I sure did
To paraphrase the Big Dog, "I felt her pain." I would have loved to have seen a woman president, and I believe I will in my lifetime. She gave a great speech and we are fortunate to have her on our side.
