10. When I went to go see Bill Clinton speak in Asheboro he was almost
2 hours late but the speech was WONDERFUL!

I don't think it means anything. She is just a very busy person, and wants to make sure she is completely "right" and "ready" when she gives this important speech.

She is NOT having second thoughts. She has ALWAYS said she will support the Dem nominee. As will I :)

14. This is different though
She has nothing else on her schedule today. She lives, what, 2 miles from the venue? Could she not find her car keys? Did her alarm not go off? Did she have the volume turned down too low on her clock radio?

:P

Jerry: (pause) So what happened? The snooze alarm, wasn't it?

Jean-Paul: Man, it wasn't the snooze. Most people think it was the snooze, but no, no snooze.

Jerry: AM/PM.

Jean-Paul: Man, it wasn't the AM/PM. It was the volume.

Jerry: Ah...the volume.

Jean-Paul: Yes, the volume. There was a separate knob for the radio alarm.

Jerry: Ah, separate knob.

Jean-Paul: Yes, separate knob. Why separate knob?! Why separate knob?! (frustrated)

Jerry: Some people like to have the radio alarm a little louder than the radio.

Jean-Paul: Oh, please, man, please!

Jerry: Don't worry, it's not gonna happen again. Not if I have anything to say about it.

29. Clintons are always late, have always been late.
Unfortunately, I have one side of my family notorious for always being very late. They think it's funny. Every single one of the siblings (my aunts) have even been late for their own weddings. I'm NOT making this up. We had to delay my grandmother's funeral because most of the aunts were running late. Not making this up.

287. Psychologists would call being consistently late a passive-aggressive
attention-getting ploy. A way to assert one's power over a "captive" audience.

But the Clintons are special cases, of course. :eyes:

306. In our culture, I agree. But when you go to Italy, or Mexico
where the concept of being in a hurry, or scheduling out one's day is the antithesis of what life is really supposed to be about...it kind of makes you wonder why we're all so gung-ho on clock-watching and scheduling our lives away.

But to your point, I know some people at work who are always late to meetings, and it's more than passive-agressive - it's definitely a sign that these two just do NOT respect the time of the rest of us (they're MORE important and want us to know).

310. No matter what culture, it is always a sign of disrespect
to be chronically late.

It's called passive-aggressive because there is no active attack involved in simply holding other people hostage and stealing their time while they wait for you to show up.

63. I'm watching Euro 2008 and reading this thread for updates.
The opening ceremony was fantastic. The match has been ok. Nothing spectacular yet that I've seen.

Swiss player injured and is crying on his way off the field at the halfway point. I feel bad for him. He looks to be the type that wants to walk it off so he can go back in, but the two doctors/trainers that are helping him walk make me think that it's not going to happen.

154. This is brutal for her. You can see it in her face.
She has to do this but she never expected to lose and it's too early for her to be enthusiastic about Obama. There's no passion for Obama in her face or words for him.

195. I'm afraid that's what I'm seeing
she hits her pacing and has real feeling behind the words that are her own and for her supporters, but she's blowing through the Obama parts.

She needs to say, "I hear those of you booing out there. Please understand that THESE are the issues, this is what is important, you must move forward and I must move forward"

funny- just as I'm typing this she uses the "move forward" idea, lol, that's good...

All the rest of her staff --- Abedin and other staff surraounding Tubbs were silent and glum unless I missed something.

That's what I saw when I walked into the room.

Then the camera panned to Bill and Chelsea and they were cheering her own.

That was welcoming.

They make me cry. I am hoping that people will be able to do that, once a bit of time passes and they realize how much McCain will hurt women's rights, wants to start the draft, etc etc etc. I am a cynic, am hopeful, am tired.

Good speech.

I wonder if she if offered a high cabinet or other position, if those "I'll never vote for BHO" people will actually do what she is asking and vote for Obama, or at least against McCain. She needs to continue to say "vote against McCain" too. It will be interesting to see HOW, what she does to support him now.

She mentions us twice in her speech, and all day long on CNN the pundits kept mentioning our voting potential.

I think we may have turned a corner.

300. I certainly hope we've turned that corner
and although I have not been a Clinton supporter (Kucinich to Obama here), I have to give her credit for what I consider a pretty damn good unity speech. If only she would denounce the DLC and renounce her membership then perhaps I could see my way to actually supporting her for the Veep spot.

But four of the states which had caucuses never reported their vote totals--therefore, we have no idea what the popular vote total actually is. Very tacky of her to keep running with it.

He has so disappointed me. Matthews I expected to create controversy, he likes the drama. But, Olbermann....I really thought once she conceded he would stop the Hillary bashing. Good for Russert, "for those people who will try to find things wrong with her speech, it just isn't there" it was a great speech, everything the Obama people needed and wanted."

289. good speech
"There are no acceptable limits, no acceptable prejudices in the 21st century"...sounds good....but

Yes her candidacy broke more barriers for women, no question...but I don't feel so proud of her means. Why did we have to see that OTHER Hillary during the campaign? The one who didn't mind appealing to a few prejudices...?

If Hillary had stuck to the tone she hits in this speech I think she would have had more support, not less.

I can't give any sort of applause for this. All I can say is "the best human won' and thankfully for all of us Hillary has conceded.

Her concession was at least positive, if not her campaign.
